New to exploring - beyond the pirate belt?

Hi,

I've just started doing some exploration, I've kitted up my Cobra, and hardware wise I think I'm fairly well eqipped. I have read that after 200 light years distance from the inhabited systems, I would be alone and not encounter AI pirates, but initial indications are that they extend well beyond this. I've had my butt kicked quite badly several times and have had to run back to a friendly base for repairs. :)


Possibly I'm not being adventurous enough and need to strike out a lot further (it is quite spooky out there!) but is there a ball park distance where I can expect solitude?

if you're in a cobra, get rid of your weapons, stick on a shield. 4 pips to engines and submit to every interdiction - you will be able to boost and jump away from pretty much every battle.

After 400ly there's no NPCs

don't forget your advanced discovery & detailed surface scanners. A-class FSD, fuel scoop (on a cobra thats 150p/s) and D-class everything else, and off you go! :)

Oh and another tip, you can budget a little better to get a lower weight power plant if you remember your power hungry auto repair unit can be disabled all the time in modules. When it's time to use it you drop out of SC, disable as many modules as necessary, fire it up and let it do its thing, then shut it down, start up your modules and away you go.

I have 2x3A auto repair modules (yes they can repair each other) on my Asp with only a 2A power unit.

since last update, the number of interdictions has increased a lot. I started exploring outwards a bit earlier and almost had no contact to other NPC players. Then after the update they stared to interdict me, until I reached a distance of about 450 LY to the next station. Also the NPC commanders were a lot tougher compared to before, I also had to decide if I return back, or try to bring more distance between me and station (already had lost some hull).
I decided to go on and after a while I was finally alone.

Yesterday I cam back into "interdiction zone". I was interdicted, tried to evade and I am pretty sure I should have won, as I had the escaoe vector in view - but suddenly I fell oput of SC, cracks appeared in my canopy and my heart came to a stop. I was able to boost away and I finally made it back with cracks ;-)
Do auto repair modules fix your windshield too? Because then I probably should take some with me on my second trip.
