New to game and feeling lost

The ultimate trading moneymaker is the Rare commodities run. Look out for them in the commodities table - they are in a different shade of orange than the common goods. Stock up on the limited supply (the Lave volume of space has a few systems close by with rares). Then, take them at least 150ly and sell anywhere - for 10x profit usually :D

There are some rare route planners out there that will let you plot your waypoints so that you don't have to backtrack. Google for them. It's a great way to see the Galaxy !

Many of the players you see flying anacondas these days originally made their money when rares were uncapped, and you could just fill your hold and make millions and millions. Sigh. Also, this style of play is less of a grind when you have a ship with 20+lay jump range.

Welcome.

When I started out I mined Unidentified Signal Sources or USS. Today that would be USS / Weak Signal Sources - WSS. You jusy fly around the system you are in (supercruise) and you'll see them pop up every now and then.

In them you can find artwork, prototype tech, black boxes, and other abandoned cargo etc. They will be illegal goods and you need to find a station or outpost with a black market, but you can make decent cash quickly.

Avoid Strong Signal Sources or SSS or any area with the words "High Intensity" until you know what you are doing.

Only true if you run anything less than a T6. In a T6 it's about a wash except the much higher risk of being pirated. Standard AB trade makes the most money, the fastest, on ships above the T6/ASP. It's about 1.5 million an hour for rares. I am currently making about 5-6 million per hour, so it depends on what your flying.
