Newcomer / Intro New to game and HOTAS - Need some setup help X-55

I've read a number of excellent posts searching through X-55 discussions on these forums and am anxious to get started with the game however I continue to encounter issues with my X-55. Both the driver and the software appear to have downloaded correctly (the driver shows as up to date in my software file) however whenever I load a custom bind in the software, the name of the bind shows up on the top right, however none of the keys populate. In addition, I assumed that Elite Dangerous had a default bind for the X-55 but it never shows up when I'm in game, only generic flightstick or similar is shown for using the joystick (and it won't recognize the throttle when chosen). Finally, when I right click on some of the custom binds people have link in the forum nothing happens, for some reason those links don't allow me to select "save link as", is there a work around for this?

In summary:

How do I download the links to custom profiles shown on this forum?
Should the Rhino be showing up in options under controllers (and if yes, how do I get it there)
Why isn't the one custom bind I downloaded (Elite Dangerous bind from Saitek website) populating the controller in the X-55 software when slected?

I'm really excited to try this game out but after spending the last two free hours I had today attempting to get my controller working, I'm feeling a bit fatigued. Thanks in advance to any and all who offer help.

I'm a newcomer as well and I just left the Rhino software in default mode (clear). When I go into the game I can select Saitek X-55 profile, and then I modified functions to suit my taste. The game has excellent controller configuration support so I did not need to do anything in the Rhino software.

If you think you are having configuration issues check in the Device Manager under "Human Interface Devices" there should be several listings there for Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino.

Next go to "Devices and Printers" and make sure there are two little gamepad icons that say Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino Stick and one for Throttle. If you right-click on one you can choose "Game Controller Settings" and click on the Stick or throttle, click on the "Properties" button and there you will be able to move the stick around and click the buttons to make sure all is registering.

Last go to the Rhino software and clear all profiles. Use the In-Game support directly for the joystick.

If one of these steps shows that you are missing something, you may need to install the drivers for the stick fresh and reboot.

I use a X52 not Rhino, so I can't be much help with that sticks software. However Uileat is correct, for these multi-button HOTAS setups the only time you need to use the programming software is if either of the following apply:

1: You want to program macros on a single button
2: You want to leverage the different modes of the saitek sticks so that the buttons do different things depending on which mode you select.

If neither of those apply to you (and as a new HOTAS user, they probably don't - as you get used to it they may begin to, though) you can happily use a cleared profile and set up all your bindings in-game.

I appreciate both responses. The issue is that the X55 was showing up in my devices, but apparently not registering to the game thus the X-55 default binds were not available to select in game. I removed both the software and driver, re downloaded and installed, and booted up and now I see them (two X 55 selections are available in-fact from in game options, however they appear to both be the same).

Thanks for the help, I think this will get me started as I just ran basic combat a few times in tutorials and the systems responds nicely, now to learn these buttons...
