new to PC; new to Odyssey

I played hours of Elite over the years on Xbox and then Playstation, and I finally decided to buy a PC and transferred account to PC so I can finally play Odyssey. I'm a little lost! I selected controller with keyboard and mouse in Options so I can play with my beloved PS5 controller. It was so awkward trying to fly with a mouse and keyboard, I couldn't stand it! (I'll try to learn it eventually, as I think it probably will make a lot of stuff easier once muscle memory is there). Anyway, then did a tutorial on foot, that was interesting... but once in station, I can't figure out how to view my character's gear and load out. I found vendor who sold me a gun, but I can't see how to see the gun I started with to compare. Some help please?

I tried while on foot and back aboard my ship. I can see storage on ship where I can see med kits I bought. But for the life of me I couldn't find any way to see load out or equipped gear. While on foot, I managed to pull up a left wheel by clicking X on controller (which is actually square on ps5 controller), but it had nothing to bring up load out, gear, etc. I googled and it said somewhere press q, so I did and that didn't do anything.

Now you have a PC your control options are much more expansive. I'd look beyond the xbox type controller.

I use keyboard/mouse while on foot, a joystick/throttle while flying the ship, and a xbox type controller when in the SRV. For me, its more natural to use different controllers for different scenarios.

Mouse + keyboard is best for FA-OFF, for all the FA-ON stuff Joystick + Keyboard is much better. Best course of action is to master both combinations and use both depending on what you do (namely, use M+KB for combat, onfoot, and some SRV, Joystick+KB for everything else)

I use an Xbox controller and have all of the keyboard stuff in a Touch Portal profile running on a tablet. Works for me...

Ya that all makes sense. I tried keyboard mouse doing tutorial and was like oh hell no! I want to invest some time learning it, but feel comfortable for now using my ps5 controller (with Xbox labeled buttons). I’m experimenting with some keyboard commands.

For an experienced console player using a controller for on-foot content is trivial. As is for everything else in the game, really.

I much prefer the Xbox controller over mouse&keyboard when flying the ship and, especially, the SRV.

Thank you Alphonso Dementia.

DjVortex, I agree. But I was never able to really figure out how to fly flight assist off on console. So at some point, I do plan to spend some time trying to figure out how to fly with keyboard and mouse and then try flight assist off - I suspect once a person develops muscle memory for mouse/keyboard play, it is probably easier to do flight assist off than it ever could be with a controller.

That's an opinion.

Mine is flying a spaceship without using a joystick/throttle to me seems strange. After all, its what the virtual pilot in your ship is using. That's what everyone uses in real life. It feels more immersive to me.

I'm trying to explain that because a person now has a PC, your options are not constrained as on a gaming console, and you can experiment more. That's all.

Maybe it's more immersive, but once you get used to the controller controls, they become second nature.

(So much so that you can't play any other space games anymore unless you can remap their controls to be similar...)
