New to RES and loving it chaps

If your system has a station close by then your golden, nothing worse when the canopy blows and you dash for a station X amount of ls's away wondering if you have enough air! and worse yet when some punk npc interdicts you when your within spitting range of the station, I once passed through the letterbox busted up with 1 second to spare. So always handy to judge your life support against station distance.

Already has that experience old man, what.

Seemed like the 7min and 30 secs of life support I had was ticking away all to fast, what!

First thing I did when I got back to the jolly old dock was to install the best life support one could find!

It was a close run thing I can tell you; what, what!

Then your all set, barrel of info gathered, I'm just off night shift and I think I shall rattle a couple of trade runs before I hit the sack. Good luck on your hunts.

The canopy blew on my DBS the other night.

See?

That's the benefit of an A4 life support. I had 25 minutes to mooch about and take in the sights on the way home

Couldn't agree more old boy, what.

Keep teaching the blighters a lesson, what.

Have you ever read any of the Space Captain Smith books by Toby Frost?

Pretty sure you'd enjoy them. It's the adventures of the titular captain and his crew ( an alien headhunter, basically the Predator) his pilot (a run away sex toy) and his love interest (a half alien hippy).

Chock full of tea, tiffin, daring do, evil alien hoards and plenty of double entendres.

Imagine a steampunk Firefly crossed with Carry on up the Khyber, and you're pretty much there.

Oh I say chaps.

Had my bally canopy shot orf so many times, feel like I should be flying a convertible, what!

Are ya flying your Asp Ex in combat? that'l happen, sir. To me the Asp Ex makes a good combat ship on paper but in practice is a little too vulnerable. It has a wide and flat shape making it an easy to hit target, and the canopy like you're finding out is very vulnerable to being shot clean off as it is a large protruding bubble of glass.

Change ships or invest in an A-rated life support is the only advice I can give, citizen. ;)

Good luck.

Advice noted kind sir, and may I add a chin chin also, whay what!

You sir are a wit and a gentleman, good show old boy what, what!

I am from london sir, having served my youth apprenticeships cleaning out the khazi at Biggin Hill, what! Halcyon days indeed; what, what!

Sorry to hear that you had some bother with one of those pesky anocondas, what!

Always best from what I hear to give them six of the best trousers down, what.

Chin, chin old man and may I venture a toodly pipsky fine sir.

I'm dying.

Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the how's your father. Hairy blighter y-birded, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie.

So I did not think that RES could get any more exciting, what with speeding through asteroid fields and having my canopy shot orf non stop.

But then I discover that to add even more daring do to the whole bally mess, I can do the whole thing in the dark, what! top hole!
Spiffing good fun, what what

Hey thelion i'd definitely suggest you invest in another ship if you can. The Asp Explorer is a great ship but it does lack in the 'oomph' department. Maybe get a Imperial Courier or Vulture for that small but deadly feel not too far from the good ol' RAF Spitfire or Hurricane. ;)

I say, thelion old boy!

How have you got your kite kitted out? I've just nabbed myself an Asp-E to use as an all-rounder while I do some jobs for a bunch of rum coves and make a jolly old name for m'self in the Federation, but I took the bally thing into a High RES and found it frankly rather terrifying. Even with A-rated shields the blasted thing melts whenever anything remotely dangerous so much as glances in its direction, and the improved firepower over my old Vulture doesn't seem to make as a difference as I'd have hoped. Have you found similar, or is it just that I'm now driving a Blenheim after getting used to gadding about the sky in a Spit?

Much obliged old bean! Toodle-pip!

Hello old chap,

I do share your sentiment that the Asp E is not the most capable combat vessel out there, what! However I have found that some advice offered to me by some other dashing and may I say talented CMDRS has stood me in good stead, what!

They suggested a weapon loadout that has proven time again to stick it to the enemy six of the best and trousers down what!

2 x beam lasers on the medium hardpoints (fabulous for stripping shields what!)
4 x Multicannons on the smaller hardpoints (eats armour like it's a fine stake & ale pie, what!)

I also learned from experience that alternative flight controls and liberal use of thrusters is a must do in the Asp E old man, The kite simply lacks the refined flying characteristics of a smaller vessel, what what.

As for the rest of the vessel, I have this sage yet sensible advice.

"The best of what you can afford and lots of hull reinforcement"

Toddly pipsky, what what!

Interesting. I'm currently set up contrariwise, with small lasers and large Multicannons. I'll swap 'em around, see if that helps any. Thanks for the reply, old fruit!

This is true for any combat area to be honest. It can happen in regular Nav Beacons, but you got cops to help you there if you do get attacked.

It's funny when they scan me and go "How do you fools make a living?"
By killing obvious pirates, of course. ;)

But you think they would say; "Yuck not woth my time"? I mean it is Aluminum after all.
