New to the game, need some help regarding the metal alloy!!!

I prefer a Dolphin for my bubble taxi. It jumps almost as far as a DBX, fits a bigger fuel scoop, and mine never overheats even when I'm hugging a white supergiant star. The hottest I've ever seen it get is 64%. You can even get a taxi paintjob for it :)
What load-out do you have? I can't get a Dolphin past 52LY, which would mean that a DBX at 71.5 LY has 35% more jump range. That's not "almost as far".

That's a sick Dolphin.

Your post Ashnak made me think about how we refer to jump distance. When I say the jump range for a ship I use unladen. Not a big issue but it does make some difference. What do most people do? Probably no consensus.

In the exploration subforum, maximum jump distance is usually (well, often) described as "on fumes", i.e. arriving with an empty tank. One reason behind that is that a lot of long distance ships have large tanks, which, in many builds, are replaced with smaller tanks, just to get the plotter to use the larger available distance (the plotter always assumes all tanks filled). The other - well, if you want to get those extra couple of ly, you'll need to arrive with an empty tank.

Those builds are more like theoretical excercises, nothing I would actually build and fly - on the other hand, not less practical than the 80+ ly Anaconda builds.

In a python and you're just now looking into the meta alloy?

Maaan, I'd only just managed to scrape myself up to a cobra at that point. I'd ditched the sidewinder and the adder that I'd used to get out of the noob zone so it was the only ship I owned.

Here's a piece of advice 'cause this is a trap that a lot of new players run into: don't go after huge amounts of credits. Do the engineers first. At least the first row of them. Rebuy is cheap so getting blown up is way less discouraging. And by the time you get yourself into a large ship or one of the bigger mediums, you'll have everything you need to make it great already unlocked.

Don't get hung up over absolutely minmaxing anything either, you can change things up as and when.

Besides, small ships are the most fun to fly.
