New to the game

Well I have upgraded my Hauler to a Cobra MkIII. It is nice to be able to get away after being knocked out of supercruise. Gonna take a lot of cash to get this bad boy up and running at a effective level though...

Welcome to the game. I hope you enjoy the Cobra. It's a great ship. I took it all over the place, and it's great for exploration. I think I did one trip out to the Coalsack in my Hauler, then I upgraded to my Cobra, took three or four trips in that, then upgraded to my Diamondback Explorer and went out to Sag A*. I'd really recommend a trip to the Coalsack. It's a dark region a few hundred lightyears away from the bubble, if I recall correctly. It's a pretty cool view, once you get toward the center. It's one of the few places where there's just...nothing. You can barely see any stars. It's pretty much the exact opposite of a trip to the core (Well, as much of an exact opposite as you can get without going out to the rim).

Also, a couple of tips, just in case you haven't figured them out yet.

  • Grab a Detailed surface scanner. It'll double the amount of cash you get for scanning a celestial body
  • There are three levels of scan
    • Tier 1 is just using your discovery scanner in a system
    • Tier 2 is when you lock onto an object and scan it until it's no long unexplored and it's details pop up
    • Tier 3 is when you do the same process as tier 2, but with a Detailed Surface Scanner
  • You get double credits for being the first person to discover a celestial body
That's the major ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Just remember to be super careful, and have fun out there.

I plan on getting the Detailed Surface Scanner once I get my Cobra modded a tad. My jump range is still far to small to effectively explore, and I need a much better fuel scoop since this damn ship is so thirsty and the tank is huge compared to the hauler. Right now I'm stuck bounty hunting to make big cash because everything on this ship is exponentially more expensive.

I would check out Inara, its the ED companion site, you can do lots of things from there.
Thanks for the info! Didn't know about that site.
I can't believe how deep this game is.

What's up peeps.

I'm new to the game, and after some growing pains of trying to find my way through such a wide open game I have finally made it to the cusp of being able to do what I want and that is explore. I could certainly use a better ship setup but since my goals are long term I don't mind the grind. I'm currently piloting a hauler with an upgraded FSD and a few other upgrades which has really opened up the game for me. Based on my limited experience I should be able to get around pretty nicely for the time being as long as people don't shoot at me.

Just wanted to pop in and say what's up and thanks for the wealth of knowledge I have found on this forum.

Side note: The galaxy is a lonely place and I don't think I have run into another human being yet. Currently on my way to check out Betelgeuse so I more than likely won't see anyone for a while.

Welcome pilot! I'm fairly still new to the game. Bought this during beta on Xbox, drop away from it when Fallout 4 release. Came back and never look back, been taking this game seriously for about 1.5 months.

So much I learn and still learning, and alot tonlook forward to once Horizon gets here. I would recommend getting a nice cargo size vehicle asap like the Asp Exploerer rigged for 96 cargo hold. I like to mine in Prestine places and make 1.7 mil per run. I average over 25+ platnium and about 10 Painte, 20 Gold and Palladium. Easy credits if you enjoy mining amd trading.

Welcome to the game! always nice to see a new face. A lot of people giving solid advice here (as always).

If you ever find yourself in Imperial space and looking for some companionship, look me up. my GT: is SAWxEvets. I'm primarily combat focused so if you're looking to do something a little Dangerous then I can help you out no problemo.

I'm just scratching the surface on being able to put myself in position to make money in this cobra lol. I can't even begin to wrap my mind around how I will afford a $6mil ship just yet. I do understand that it takes money to make money in this dangerous galaxy. Makes me wonder if I will really get to where I want to be anytime in the near future.

Elite has a great community and I appreciate all the insider info everyone has thrown out my way. I'll have to look you up bu I have no idea where imperial space is or if I am even in it lol. I have traveled pretty far accross the "bubble" I believe but haven't paid any attention to the political structure of the game. I guess If I shoot at enough people it will become pretty obvious.

You can make a ton of CR from the community goals, I made 11m this week from the exploration CG, that's ended now but check on Inara for future CG's coming up.

Ah, you can take a look at your galaxy map and with enough fiddling around with the tabs and options you can find a way for the galaxy map to display one of three modes.

1. Realistic - This'l have the color of the stars and whatnot as well as possible routes between them. Excellent for plotting out long courses as it gets rid of a lot of fluff.

2. Map (lol) - Will show star systems political alignment by color. Red = Federation, Yellow = independent, Blue = Empire and Green = Alliance. Neutral systems appear in Grey. Will also helpfully show potential trade routes between star systems with weird lines that'l show the direction to move a certain product. Use this as more of a very general guideline for trading, and not a rule.

3. Powerplay - Will show political territory boundaries of all the major powers in the game.

Basically, go to your galaxy map and hit the right bumper a few times until you see the tab with these options pop up. Choose which one you'd like the best for that given moment, and away you go.

That was my first ever CG this week, walked off with 24m, are those rewards always as high or just depending on the goal?

And welcome CMDR nice to see new players, As others have extended their hand so shall i, if you need a wingman for trading or bounty hunting or just cruising, there are plenty of us around.

Hi could do with some help on trading definitely, as bounty hunting is getting a bit boring. I'm on most evenings into nights.

I'm just doing a 1 system hop at the minute trading each way, I need a quick cash boost, punching about 6m an hour, just off night shift so a little blast this morning to top up my bank balance then ill get back on later. Defo good to mix up trading and bounty hunting, both can get tedious.

Two quick ways to get some enjoyable/profitable trading:

1) Rares trading (don't need a massive cargo hold), and this:

2) If the same loop bores you...something with a decent cargo hold, and this:

Do with a wingman for both profit and fun bonuses (y)

Edit: If you're short of people to call "wingmen", pop me a message and I'd be happy to share the fun.
