Newcomer / Intro New to the game

Good Morning Commanders,

I am new to the game and just saved and picked up a Cobra MKIII - After doing a bit of research this seems like the best all round ship for me at the moment.

I am wanting to get into a bit of bounty hunting maybe just courier missions, what would be the best Outfitting?

Thanks for any advice you can offer,

Welcome!

Awww a lovely Cobra Mark III.

Well, what's the best thing it's got going for it? Speed. GLF. My advice - get it going as quick as whatever. Get the A grade Distributor and boost, boost, boost. With just Level 1 of Engineers, which you should be able to do very quickly, you can get up to near 500 as a top boost speed. Security against virtually all interdictions.

That, and give it a flag finish is my best of advice (see thread with funky Cobra paintjobs).

Fly safe commander

See I picked up this game a long time ago maybe going on 2 years and only played a few mins then and just revisited it and really enjoying it. This Engineers thing is something I've not picked up yet as I didn't want to spend anymore till I was sure I was going to stick with the game.

At this point I'm still testing the waters as this is my first ship I've bought. Is it worth getting engineers at this point is the advantage of having it very beneficial?

Thanks for the help, just put on the weapons, how do Fire groups work?

Greetings from another Mk III commander.

Fire groups allow you to assign weapon systems to your first and secondary trigger.
E.g. if you have 2 lasers, 1 missile launcher and an ECM, you can set up 2 fire groups.
Group 1: Laser 1 and laser 2 on trigger (1) and missile launcher on trigger (2).
Group 2: Laser 1 and laser 2 on trigger (1) and ECM on trigger (2).

In combat, you can then quickly switch between both fire groups, depending on whether you want to launch missiles or counter measures.

This is just one example, the options are infinite.

Thank you for the advice :) and how do you set up your Mk III modules?

You mean how to equip your ship?

That depends on what you want to do. Trade? Combat? Exploration? A little of everything (for which the Mk III is one of the best ships)?

Here is my current config, that is still work in progress: https://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk...2ov62f.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==?bn=Zakk Cobra Mk III

Tonight, I will upgrade my power plant from 4B to 4A. After that, I will save up for upgrading both thrusters and FSD to 4A as well.

I have not finally decided yet what to with my shield generators. Last night, I found bi-weave 4C generators by chance, had never heard of bi-weave before.
Basically, it means you give up overall shield strength, but gain faster shield regeneration.
It's great for those interdictions where I decide to accept the fight. It's not soo great for interdictions when I decide to run away, and would thus like my shields to last as long as possible. OTOH, with bi-weave 4C instead of regular 4A shields, I can run away faster.

Another module decision I'm undecided on is fuel scoop vs. planetary surface scanner. I only have room for one of them, as I'm not ready to sacrifice cargo capacity. Surface scanner means more credits for my exploration data. Fuel scoop means no fuel stops on longer journeys. I frequently switch between both modules, can't really decide which one to keep. No matter which one I have installed, I always start missing the other one immediately.

That's great thanks for your help, I'll probs mull around with it, I'm looking for into Bounty hunting and Courier missions :)

Thank you :)
