Background: The day that the Trailblazers update dropped, I left my home for ~3 weeks of travel, so I couldn't play the game. During that time, I followed the ED goings-on as time permitted. Since returning, I have read up on the experiences of other players and fumbled my way through the beginnings of colonizing a system. My plan is to learn everything I can and make all my mistakes while building this first system so that, if I decide to do another one, I can really make it as good as possible. I have just finished hauling my bootie off, and completed the first station, which is an outpost, which from what I have gathered is the recommended first station. Time for a little break to do other things, and more importantly learn about the best practices in developing my system. Here are some of my thoughts so far:
- First of all: many thanks to those who have done and are continuing to do research to understand the colonization mechanics. I understand that there are still many unknowns regarding the best way to set up a system for desired operations. I think it's somewhat poor that the basics on how the construction and interactions of different stations was not clearly defined by FD; this part of colonization should not have been a mystery, and it's the reason that I won't develop my first system further until this is more fully understood, especially since there's "undo" button for what you have built.
- On that note, during my reading and watching of videos to understand colonization, I see that there are quite a few research efforts going on. I'm willing to help gather data to help. I would prefer that this not involve too much grinding of hauling things, though. Is there any organized effort that is looking for specific info or help from other players?
- Where can I find the latest/greatest guide on colonization? (Preferably a document and not a video)
- Wouldn't it be nice if:
-- you could bookmark the System Colonization ships?
-- you could bookmark the Trailblazers Megaships? (Because, I don't know, players are bouncing back and forth between these 2 ships countless times, and maybe bookmarks would make less players go insane? I probably don't understand the wisdom of this.)
-- you could see the remaining required commodities for the colonization missions in the Transactions tab? (again, that might make it too easy, right? until then, spreadsheets it is...)
-- the amount of credits made by trucking commodities from Megaships to Colonization ships would be even more lucrative for new players() such that there would be a real incentive for them to help with the expansion of the bubble? ( I'm not sure how to fairly make it more lucrative for new players vs old players, but if there were such an incentive, I believe that there would be a lot more players helping; and this would be a win-win scenario.)
