New to this game...!!!

Hi everyone.

Okey to start with i would like to say to everyone that this game looks amazing, and it`s alot of fun to play, ( what little i`ve been able to play ) im totally new to flight simulator games, but i like this one, which is why i bought it after looking at it on utube, but i must say that from a total noob like me this game is insane, i`ve died about 3 or 4 times now and the frustration just keeps growing haha, i get a ransom on me for something that i have no clue of why i got it, but that`s okey i died again and it went away :)

I`ve been trying to take a mission where i need to freight some basic things and i would get around 2k credits for it, and i was aight im so all over this mission, so i take the cargo and go on my merry way, and then i find a station that looks really cool but i can`t find the entry to dock, so i decide to just park my little tiny hiny alittle way of, so that i can see the station rotate, and my thinking was that maybe at some point the entrance will reveal itself, so then i sit there chillin a ship passes by and deside to scan me, and im thinking sure you know ahead mister police officer, and bam i got finned about 2.5k credits because those goods were illigal in that system, so yea i was kinda disapointed about that, but then i thought, screw it chin up and move forward, and YES finally i can see the entrance to the station, so i go in and dock up so i can diliver those goods so i atleast get some credits back so my fine wont be that big, but sadly no, now they wont take my goods...!!!

Deep breath again thinking happy thoughts and on i went, thinking you know what im going to fly abit out and try and shoot something easy, so that i did only to find out that i can`t find anything and when i say that, i mean i can`t chase anyone down, so with all this in mind i would like to hear if anyone have some good advise for a brandnew player like me on what i should do, i just started over again, but i think im going to let the game rest for the rest of the day haha, all that blood on my windshield aint good for me :)

Anyways i hope some one can help me out and once again the game seems really cool and i want to learn it :)

what type of controller are you using? HOTAS is by far the best system if you don't have one i strongly recommend you get one.

if you check the galaxy map and double click your destination system you can then access the system map and click on the station your going to any illegal goods will be shown in the info panel there.

im finding the galaxy map is good for figuring out trade routes and if you can work your side winder up to larger jumps trading is slow but sure once you have the money get yourself a cobra it can carry 40 tons if you outfit it well and has great jump capacity too also a fine fighter or even mining ship very flexible.

im tooling around in a fully outfitted 100 tone cargo capacity type 6 at the moment and loving it im making about half a million an hour most sessions and heading towards having my ASP not sure how long it will take to get that one sorted as i think the mods are more expensive but hey that's the game for me :D

welcome in and most of all don't worry the learning curve soon gets less steep.

The starports have their openings on the bottom if they rotate clockwise (generally anyway) so you should be able to find them fairly easily if you stop and watch it rotate in front of you.

The various starports all have their own blend of goods they buy and sell. It is a little higgledy piggledy at the moment as they have tweaked the cargo manifests in this release for various reasons.

Try and base yourself at somewhere like Aulin and run trade between the adjoining systems, you will soon work out who wants what. I recommend a little notebook to jot down prompts as to what each station is (i.e agricultural, Industrial, refinery, etc)

Dodgy goods can be sold on the black Market, try Freeport in LP98-132 for that.

Practise really will make you get better and understand more, and have a browse amongst the other threads as well.

Welcome Commander!

The game does currently have a steep learning curve as there isn't much in the way of tutorials but I can highly recommend this guide:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/236560722/Elite-Dangerous-pilots-guide-manual-tutorial

For station entrances always remember that the stations rotate anti-clockwise along the axis the entrance is on. For the "ball" shaped stations target them and you will see arrows on the holographic display pointing you in the correct direction. For others look for the bit that looks big enough to house the docking bay. For outposts I just get fairly close and request docking so I can see what light up in orange.

When taking missions look at the timer (it is in hours and minutes) as they keep counting down even before you accept them and there might not be enough time to actually complete the mission. If it is a courier mission and the timer runs out the goods will be marked as stolen and can only be sold on the black market. Any goods you find floating in space are also marked stolen. If you are not comfortable with using silent running to sneak into the station and sell the goods on the black market either eject the cargo well away from a station (or you get fined for littering) or find an anarchy system and sell them there. System authority vessels are scanning you for bounties or illegal cargo. To begin with go for courier missions that don't take up any cargo space as that won't result in stolen cargo if you don't get there in time. Start on the ones that do involve cargo once you are more familiar with how long it takes to get from one system to another. Fines are paid under Contacts in the starport services menu.

If you want some easy combat jump to a system and as soon as you have steered away from the start look in your left UI (press 1) and you will see a nav beacon. Lock onto that and go there. Once out of Supercruise lock ships and face them to scan them (check to the left of your scanner to see their status). If wanted open fire and kill them which will get you bounty vouchers you can turn in at the local starports for money. Sometimes you will see other ships go hostile (red) and it is because they are the same faction as your target and you can see the factions under the Contacts panel of your left UI. A Sidewinder is fairly small so don't pick on anything too big and if you do find yourself getting jumped by others put 4 pips to your engines (up arrow) and boost like crazy. If you see wanted system authority vessels do not attack them as his friends will all go after you. That hostility will reset if you come back and I normally don't stay beyond a few kills as if you die you lose your bounty vouchers.

When traveling in Supercruise notice the blue area on your throttle display. Keep your throttle set to the lower half of that area (so the line goes blue) as that enables "auto throttle" and your ship will speed up/slow down as needed preventing you overshooting. To the left of your scanner you will see a speed/distance gauge and the two blue areas are the "sweet spot" for coming out of Supercruise safely which is what auto throttle is aiming for. Use that blue area in combat too as it is the sweet spot for your best turning circle.

Remember that dying is free to begin with as replacement Sidewinders don't cost anything so do your experimentation before you think about upgrading modules or buying a new ship. Once you start on upgrades make sure you pay attention to the power values on the modules screen and in your right cockpit UI. It is possible for upgraded modules to draw more power than your power plant can supply and that is generally bad news. Most new players discover this when they deploy their hardpoints and life support shuts down causing an oxygen mask to drop down in front of you.

Before long you will have it all mastered (especially if you read that pilots guide) and will be having a blast. If you have any questions just post them as we are a friendly and helpful bunch compared to most forums and we have all been exactly where you are now wondering why a certain thing happened ;)

EDIT: Before I forget remember there is a wipe coming on the 22nd of November so don't go too mad yet and concentrate on learning the ropes and after that wipe you can then work on building your fortune with your new-found knowledge.

Greetings and welcome.

As Tiamat suggested read the tutorial he linked and then go watch the many many videos on youtube, that's the way I learned the ropes.

Also spend as much time in the games scenarios getting your set up right how you like it and learning to fly before you contemplate going live.

Welcome on board. :) Best advice I can offer any new player once they have got going, is to always keep a reserve of credits to pay insurance for a replacement ship should things go south ;)

Thanks so much.

That is alot of very usefull information and i thank you guy`s for all the help, i will try and find Aulin like you said and see if i can make some credits over at that system, but i have a few more questions if you are up for it :)

I was wondering because i just noticed that my bouty is still on me in some systems, how do i get that off??? i`ve died so obviously that did not help, is it because i need to pay the fine`s that i have in some systems ( which is alot by now haha )

My second question is that i was wondering if there is a way to chat or to play with other people in the game, or is this game mainly for single player ish, or im i missing something???

Again thanks for all your help so far, and i can now dock at those funny stations i see the small arrows hehe :)
