New to VR some advice needed (DK2 related)

Hello CMDR's,
So I've been interested in making this game more immersive for myself lately. It started when i saw a post about Elite on Gear VR.....peeked my interest. I just couldn't really read text and it had trouble centering.
I then decided to get a Tobii 4C. Its nice, little awkward tbh, but it made me start thinking about proper VR. So before I plunk down even more $$ i went with the cheap Rift DK2. A few questions i have about it:
1. How far off is it from current CV1 Rift? I know the resolution is a bit less and at 75 hz instead of 90.
2. With my current specs does anyone have any recommended settings i should use:
i7 4970k 4.5GHz
16gb Ram
2x 980 GTX (OC a little by about 100mhz mem and gpu) SLI'd
SSD
(Is there a certain color HUD DK2 users use to read text better?)
3. I'm currently playing on the Asus Rog 1440p 144hz monitor(the older TN Panel version), will this make the experience on the DK2 less than ideal with the loss of refresh?
4. Is it as simple as downloading the latest Oculus drivers/software from their site and launching ED (presumably steam vr will start like it does ever since i tried gearVR)?
5. Thanks in advance for the advice/settings.

Howdy CMDR,

To answer your questions..
1. the CV1 is superior to the DK2(I still have my DK2) but the CV1 is not without it's flaws, god rays..
2. as per several threads on this forum, SLi will hinder performance instead of increasing it as far as Elite is concerned. I used to run the game in SLi during the DK2 days but I guess something changed :(..I would start with a standard "medium" in Elite's settings and go from there.
3. No. I play on a 4k@60 and it makes no difference to the rift.
4. Yes.., with one small exception, you must set the oculus software to accept "unknown sources".
5. No problem :).anything to help a fellow CMDR.

P.S. Ditch the steamvr..it's yucky and should'nt be used unless absolutely needed.

I have a DK2 and love it, even with it's numerous flaws. I tried the CV1 with elite and did not find paying extra $800.00 for the CV1 just for slight improvement worth it. I say get the DK2 have fun now while you wait either for the CV2 or the many new other hmd's for much cheaper coming out this year like the Pimax 8K(with position tracking).
By the way there are things that DK2 is actually better than CV1: Much less heat on your face, requires less powerful pc, and no god rays (but instead you get black smearing)

So I set it up, and OMG what a blast it is! I really thought it was going to be "Meh". The gearVR idea really jaded me. I downloaded the tool found on the boards that auto loads HUD's (Went with dk2 friendly assuming its all that really works for it) and settings under "VR High, Ultra, Med" Etc. Seems I can run it on high with no issues. I'd like to really tweak it using DSR and all. Any suggestions?

Dont use DSR. Better to use the oculus config tool which you can download directly from oculus site. Set pixel density between 1.2 to 1.5.

So i've done that. I've downloaded the tool listed here. Does anyone with a 980gtx sli and dk2 have settings they want to share?
