New type of Engineer

Would be so cool to have some sort of Mechanical Engineer that can turn (for example) Turreted weapons to fixed, or gimballed (and Vice Versa) and still keep the engineering that has been applied to said weapon. It would open up the game and encourage players to try fixed or use turrets for Multi-crew without having to re-engineer everything.
 
This is an interesting idea. My question is how payment would work with regards to module prices between sizes and between fixed, gimbal, and turret mounts.

For example, small pulse lasers are 2,200/6,600/26,000 for fixed, gimbals, and turrets respectively, while large pulse lasers are 70,400/140,600/400,400 respectively.
 
Yeah, it would definitely have to be a mixture of credits and materials to swap from fixed/gimballed etc. to avoid exploiting it but I'm sure the FD team could come up with something good.
