New Types of Funding

To modernize the game, it might be interesting if they tried to add new types of funding and capital structures to the game that was more similar to how some start-ups get their money. Like you would get different "rounds of funding" from angel investors and venture capitalists. In a scenario, it could say that if you reach certain goals you get "another round of funding" which would essentially be gifts of $10,000 (but wouldn't necessarily get into the dilution of ownership and relinquishing control of the company). The goals could also be to spend the money on a new coaster and theme it as promotion for the investor's company.

Sounds good, but since they are not willing/cappable to fix basic fundamental problems with current system, this all sounds like a pretty nice sci-fi.

The Railroad Tycoon series had both equity and debt financing, a stock market simulation, and economic cycles included in the game. Hostile takeovers of competing railroads was possible. A player rarely was able to own "his" or "her" company free and clear.

An obvious loss condition that could be implemented in a sim is having the Board of Directors fire you.

Nowadays, getting government approval for development is just as big an issue as obtaining property. There are probably ways to incorporate that into the game, if they wanted to build out the business sim side of the game.

Yeah, its occurred to me they RCT or PC never really got into the aspect of turning a profit great enough to justify your business, distributing money to yourself, and losing control of your company by selling shares. It pretty much just assumes that all of the money that you have is going to go straight in the park, or will just sit there. It might be cool if10% of your retained earnings were distributed annually, if you failed to make dividends you might get voted out.
