New Vive 'consumer' headset

Wow, the new Vive Focus 3 and the Vive pro 2, 5K displays Mmmmm :)
The Vive Pro 2 is on pre-order now (US$800) and out in 3 weeks !

So I have a confession, the Vive Pro 2 will be my first VR headset. I've pre-ordered and I'm both excited and a little nervous.

For me this is the first headset along with the v2 base stations and index controllers that meets what I consider to be the minimum PC VR hardware experience. I agree what others have said regarding the price, really as a complete package this needed to be quite a bit cheaper so I'm reluctantly paying the premium for my choices.

I'll happily share my experiences but will also need to ask a ton of questions from experienced VR users so apologies in advance

I'd wait for a headset with foveated rendering/eye tracking to be honest. Unless you're playing simple graphics type games then you're going to need a lot of GPU power. I hope you have a 3080/3090.

To explain what I mean, Elite Dangerous with a RTX3090 and HP Reverb (4k) display is best on medium settings at 90hz and will still get the odd bit of judder.

Elite Odyssey test in VR on the same settings was a complete mess of juddering, even on the headsets 60hz mode.

I'm in for this one. Been enjoying ED in the original Vive since 2016 now and I absolutely love it.

Very much not expecting my 1080ti to give me the greatest performance, but a some smart decisions will help. The resolution alone is something I'm really excited for.

My next GPU upgrade (eventually) will add another layer of awesome.

Yeah I was luckily enough to pickup a retail 3080 last year.

I wasn't too fussed about eye tracking tbh but I do want haptic gloves (for DCS cockpits) and I think that is likely to be a separate product from the headset vendor not unlike the Index controllers.

It looks good, and I might be willing to retire my O+ for one of these. I love the idea of a wireless connection. I hate the darn cords. I also love the idea of not being linked to FB.

Only two issues I see with it : Getting a good GPU to drive it, and a lack of reviews just yet. Both will get cured in a few months.

It looks like it could be a really good HMD with similar pixel density to the Reverb.

From an ergonomics standpoint it looks extremely comfortable which is a big deal - the original Vive Pro was excellent in this regard.

It will be interesting to see what the recommended pre-distortion target resolution is. If they can get that down from the nominal 1.4x that we have seen before it might be in with a fighting chance as the biggest drawback in Elite is going to be the lack of a lower refresh rate option such as 60/72/80hz.

I look forward to hearing your impressions when you get your hands on it !

Looking forward to your views on it. I kept my original base stations and controllers from the Vive, just for this kind of thing. But I'm also waiting on the DecaGear (much cheaper).

Its actually seems to be a pretty good HMD (despite the price). 120 fov 120 hz 6mp per eye is awesome. As a pimax user i can say that a larger FOV is a must.
I was most dissapointed by the Focus 3 - truly excellent headset with awful marketing strategy. I understood that many users hate FB, but i dont care, as long as Q2 is readily aviable in my country for like 450$, while F3 wouldnt be obtainable at all (like G2) or gonna cost like 2 grand

I'd love to try it. But I guess Valve Index will also pop up with an updated headset soon. I think they have to in order to compete with Vive. When they do so I'll compare and decide then.
And then I'll need a stronger GPU, which demands a newer Motherboard... which needs a new CPU and new RAM... oh and a new powersupply... ah damn a whole new PC it will be. Already seeing my future me spending about 5000€ for a complete new VR setup.
