They arent even that good at it. With two chaff modules you can have 22x chaff, back to back. That is almost four minutes of perma-chaff without using engineers or synthesis. They intentionally leave gaps for our less skilled brothers and sisters to get some shots in.

No that's quite inaccurate. I think their mass consist of 50% chaff and 50% rail gun ammo.

An NPC's life expectancy is measured in seconds, so they don't really have any cause to conserve their consumables.

There is a simple way to make them stop using chaff continouosly. Use fixed weapons.
Not only won't they use chaff ever again, most of the time they won't even have a chaff launcher.

They always seem to know your loadout somehow before they take off.

In the past few weeks I did a heck of a lot of "kill pirate lord" wing missions, most of them on my own.
When I was doing them in my FAS, the space around me almost instantly filled up with missile explosions as soon as the ~300MJ bi-weave collapsed. As I got fed up with it, I threw out a booster and installed a point defence instead.

Hardly any explosions have I heard since then. Most of the time I return to base with 9980/10000 point defence ammo left.

yeah they only seem to use chaff when a player shoots them. as soon as I use fixed weapons everybody suddenly stops using it even if I don't engage and watch security fighting.. odd and wish it was just more random. same with everything else.

Yes, I believe these guys must be hauling 900t of the damn things the way they drop them in your face at the merest hint of your guns.

As far as fixed weapons for the chaffsters, I use 4 rails to get their attention. As 2 of them are IMP Hammers, they get 8 shots downrange, fun stuff!
