Defensive weapon ideas
Aside from my idea from Peter Hamilton of Dumpwebs for depleting shields, he also refers to Niling d-sink based variants which reverse and release the energy as a weapon
In addition lasers could have their beam reduced by a scattering medium if dispersed in from of the beam in sufficient quantities.
Other exotic weapons include small black holes to bend laser beams away from the ship, maser variants of the laser which are not subject to scattering, and wormhole based lasers which are not subject to anything in nearby space, and could have greater range at a cost of accuracy, but with very high power (and high power demands).
High explosive perimeter defences could offer a method of protecting against bust of cannon fire, via micro mines fired in a circular dispersal pattern or in the direction of fire, which could be extended by reversing after fire (if forward to maximise their effectiveness)
The existing units with different grade and quantity of other packages could take up progressively larger slots on a ship as complete defence packages, with more ammunition and features with capacity and class of mount, but with reduced effectiveness compared to equivalent single item mounts

I've not gone into too much detail but I hope the physics and associated items are understandable. Clearly no ship can be fully prepared for all enemies, so it offers an opportunity to hunt and scout your target, or have local knowledge of what technology is used in trading systems for best defence strategies

- Point defence for missiles and torpedoes (requiring ammo)
- Scattering agents for lasers (requiring ammo)
- Devices to curve beam weapons in local space fired in front of ship (requiring ammo - but retrievable)
- Micro mines to help lessen cannon impact (requiring ammo)
- Deflection shield modifiers to give burst to shield spot at expense of weakening other areas of shield
- Pulse shield inverter modifiers to dislodge attached dumpwebs momentarily disabling shield
- Pulse shield extractor modifier to momentarily take energy from nearby space, destroying niling-based dumpwebs, and temporarily boosting shields by burst, but doing some damage to electronics and shield itself
- Niling D-sink capacitors offer a way to supercharge shields much quicker from dead and requiring only a single Class 1 slot due to zero size in space (requiring ammo)
- Niling D-sink distributors could offer an advanced distributor that can use battery charged cartridges to provide a massive charge to recharge weapons and power items at over 100% capacity (requiring ammo)
- Subspace insertion weapon to momentarily take the ship (or part of it that is protected) into its own hyperspace/subspace in response to equivalent weapons at very high energy cost (requiring ammo) - unnamed at present

- Explosive two stage cannon - Shell which triggers near mines to clear immediate area and keep cannon projectile on track as second stage as cannon modification
- Explosive two stage missile modification (as above)
- Relavistic cannon
- Relavistic rail gun
- Pulse plasma lance cuts through hull with weak damage to components on path if shields are depleted, cutting a small hole in the hull in the process
