Hey all, just bought ED tonight. Having exe errors and hangs galore.

So not used to mouse flying... must play with options lol, i'm used to freelook flying.

Crashes and hangs are not at all normal. Suggest you verify the install from the launcher, or maybe reinstall

Check your system meets the minimum Requirements to play.
If you do, you might want to try updating your video drivers.

My system runs all other games perfectly, for hours on end. I'm a computer tech of 25 years, so I know my system is ok lol.

requesting refund, as this game is in a state that should be deemed alpha, maybe beta still.

I'm sceptical. The game is rock-solid for most people. Whether you're a "computer tech" (whatever that is) or not, I would probably suggest doing some systematic diagnostics on your machine.

People complain about a great many things, but stability isnt one of them
As an experienced tech, then you will know that you have a higher chance of a flakey redist, beta drivers, manual reg changes or one of the many other reasons for it being a problem at your end instead of poor software.

That attitude never gets old.

My attitude is this. Every single other game I play, runs flawless, for hours on end. Fresh install of ED gives me hangs, and direct 3d errors (I'm far for them only one having these issues as well).

Its great that YOU don't have problems. I had problems that shouldn't happen with a RELEASED game, from a fresh install. I'll get my refund when it gets applied back, that's a perfect resolution.

No need to discuss this further, have a great time in your working game, it just didn't work for me.

I had direct 3d problem getting it to run on my laptop. I had directx up to date with windows update (or so I thought) but had to go to the microsoft site and run the directx installer which did install a few extra files (not sure what exactly) but the game then started and ran without problem. I would recommend trying that before giving up completely.

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that elite uses components of directx 9 which I'm sure microsoft aren't including in the standard windows update anymore.
