Horizons Newbie collector question....

So please have patience....
As I have absolutely no idea how to approach this.

In order for Ted to look at improving my weapons he told me to go and collect sulphur.
How the heck do I do that?
I fly a FdL now, with cargo, shields, dock comp, fuel scoop.

Plz guys, have patience with me and point me in the right direction.

Big kuddos in advance!

You either mine it from asteroids (slow), or get an SRV and mine surface rocks (not as slow). Sulphur is pretty common on planet surfaces, you can get a detailed surface scanner to get a better idea of what planets will have a higher concentration.

Is it enough if I then get Planetary Vehicle Hangar? Or do I need anything else? Greatfull for input and patience.

You need to equip a "planetary landing suite module", land on a moon/planet, deploy the SRV, scan for minable rocks, blast them, and collect the sulfur containing fragments. You can do a "detailed surface scan", to verify that a moon/planet contains sulfur, prior to landing on it. If you're new to landing on planets, avoid high gravity worlds.

No, you don't need anything else.

So now O got me a SRV, and been driving around the planet for a while (have no idea how I managed to leave the ship. but that is another story), and have absolutely no idea what i´m doing or what I´m looking for.
Man do I feel stupid.....

Check Frontiers Youtube channel for Horizons tutorials. There are tutorials for using the SRV and the Wave Scanner, which is required to find surface materials. Fit your ship with a Detailed Surface Scanner. Scanning the planet will then reveal its contents in the system map. Once you found sulphur, make sure to remember the signal of the Wave Scanner. Each material type makes distinctive sound and has a specific pattern on the WS. Once you know your stuff, you can search much quicker and with more chance of success. Takes a while to know the tricks, but personally, i like to drive the SRV and explore surfaces. Have fun :)

yeah, and now i tried to dock with my ship, couldnt find it although it kept bleeping on my scanner, but there was no way for me to find a way to it. Man I suck big balls and find it so boring beyound belief. Planet beige is just that, beige. Hate it already. If I wanted Mission Impossible I would applied for work at NASA. I just wanted to play the feecking game. Get some uppgrades, see how it feels. Now I´m stuck with sh*t i cant figure out looking for I dont know what, not knowing where I am or how I got there. I suck big time. Huge hairy balls. and i hate it.

Stay calm, there is time for panic later. There is a boarding indicator on the right side of your front HUD. Once it is lit, go to your role menue, select the SRV and then the board command.

Also take a look at your right hand panel under inventory and the synthesis. Make sure to pick up materials to refuel and repair the SRV in the field. Keeps the pain away ;)

And Elite is a game of skill and patience. It takes time to manage your stuff. Dont worry and dont give up, when things dont work out the first time. The learning curve is steep, but not as steep as that of KSP for example, which is much closer to NASA stuff than Elite. Just dont give up.

The ship launches to orbit by the way, once you get more than a few kilometers away. You can recall it from the role panel under the SRV commands. Maybe this helps to find your ship.

Also keep in mind that the wave scanner on the SRV is a bit broken at the moment. You can still track by sounds, but the actual graph on the scanner is messed up (you can be sitting right in front of a mineral deposit, but the graph will look like there's either nothing in front of you or you're really far away from it). So, if you've never done planet mining before the bug hit, I imagine it might be frustrating.

Frank_G: really appreciate your patience, I really do. I wish I had it, but I dont.
I never claimed I am a super duper NASAs TopGear Space explorer HiTech Pilot Wizzkid. I just want to play and have fun.

I got Engeneers because I thought it would be fun getting those gadgets to improve/modify my ship, kinda make it "unique". Man was I wrong.
Cuz having to spend time on Youtube in order to figure sheet out, or need to admit how dumb you are here in the forum, begging for help trying to figure stuff out, man, that just aint fun. Some challenge, yeah hell yeah, NASA requirements, hell no.
Boooooooring.
But kuddos to you for trying. Really.

syngyne: cheers and thanx.
But I´m bored beyond belief. Had to suicide crash/destroy my stupid RSV as I just couldnt find my way back to my FdL. I mean how hard could that be???? I got wanted by the way by Teds Station, cuz I cruised around trying to find my way around. Load of , for me atleast.

I know I am dumb, I admit I am dumb. Really happy that this "game" reminds me of how dumb I am....

Jasse what system(s) are you hanging around in? If you are not half way across the bubble I might have time this weekend to visit a planet with you. Message me if you are interested. I will get the boys to load the SRV module from storage and head your way. Nice break from running cargo and passengers.

Frankie_G:
I wrote a "big" replay the other day but it seems it got "lost in translation" somehow. Nevertheless, to cut the long story short, I now got the general idea of how things work. But I could never have done it without your pointing me in the right direction and kinda giving me ideas. So, a veary big and heartly Thanx and kuddos to you Sir. I mean it. (I am still dumb though :D ). Hope you read it as you really deserve the credit.

Ebel, really nice of you to ask Sir! I dont really remember where I am at, but when I log in I will message you (here?) right away. Cheers!
