So, I've been running a little franchise, learning the ropes and figuring out how to save up some Conservation Credits. I want to breed at least 1 lion to contribute to the community goals.
Anyways, I started with a wolf exhibit, and used their offspring to save up enough credits to buy some awesome Gharial. I just added on an Ostrich/Warthog mixed exhibit, and I'm doing well! I have every animal in my zoo max researched, and have about 50k in game currency saved. Only like 200 Conservation credits, at the moment, but for someone who has never played a planet game (and failed a few zoos spectacularly) I'm pretty pleased with myself.
-So! Wolves! I've been massively enjoying having them. Their behavior is so cool, even with a lot of the stuff disabled for Beta. Only the alpha pair will breed, and it's been a really reliable way to manage my populations. Any wolf that is full grown and is not the alpha I've traded off for Credits as soon as they aged up. Alpha status shifts between the strongest wolves, so when my first female became elderly, one of the younger adult female wolves stepped up to become alpha. There will be fighting between the alphas and the rest of the pack, if the wolves are adults, so I've found it best to keep on top of things and make sure the extra adults are traded out regularly.
-My Gharial are just...gorgeous. I adore them. I have a breeding pair, and they've produced 2 young since adopted. The guests are totally in love with them, and they rake in donations by the bucket load. The female is about a third of the size of the male, and I've grown quite attached. I have noticed that the babies take ages to get anywhere, so put lots of feed and water stations everywhere so they don't get too low on their needs. The species as a whole live for a long time, and stay really popular with guests, so I've relied on them a lot for money.
-If you want Guests to go to a spot that doesn't have much traffic (example: a nice viewing spot for your enclosure that they won't visit for some reason), add an exhibit! Any small animal will do- I use them to draw guests towards food and drink areas, as well as information centers.
-Conservation boards bring in lots of donations! I've added donation bins to each glassed in area of my exhibits, one to all of my small animal exhibits, and one next to each conservation and information booth as well, and each one pulls in lots of money. I only charge $5 for an adult ticket and $3 for a child, and I make enough money to add what I want, pay the bills, and run ad campaigns, all without loans.
-The mixed exhibit is just juveniles at the moment, so I don't have too much to share there yet.
As some one who is very new to the Planet style of building, I have to say there's a huge learning curve. I've found that watching streams and little video tutorials has been very helpful, and between Bestinslot and Geekism I've been able to handle myself. My exhibits are very basic, but they keep my animals very happy and the guests don't mind. You don't have to be an incredible builder to keep everyone happy and be profitable. I feel like that's perfect- it gives the player time to learn and grow without immense pressure. That's all I have so far, but I'll update if I find anything else.
