Newbie here

Hey guys, I was a huge fan of star citizen and of course with the delay now on the DFM and some spare pocket change I bought Elite, For awhile I've wanted this and I wasn't willing to pay the 200 quid. 100 quid though, Taking in account you get the DLC now thats more like it!

Just a few questions from me,

I already found that flying with a joystick is far better than a mouse, Is this true?

Second, Am already stuck on a mission where you must kill the Federal fighters, Does anyone have any pointers in this mission?

And lastly, The beta comes out today if am not wrong?

Thanks fokes and am happy to be a part of the bug crushing crew. Already love the game for the few missions I've played and can already see the huge appeal of it <3

Premium beta starts today..

With joystick is easier
Keep your mouse turned on as well but be careful during launch it didn't automatically centered yet

Brumster (brumster100 on YouTube) has a nice guide on dealing with the incursion mission which covers handling all types of ships.

Regardless it will take a while to get familiar with the flight and shooting mechanisms. Once you get comfortable with that you will want to start messing with your pips and other more advanced techniques. There is a lot of depth to the combat that isn't apparent upon first glance! I personally invested in a HOTAS setup and it is a marked improvement over my xbox360 gamepad.

Welcome to the community!

"stuck on a mission where you must kill the Federal fighters"

A few tips

Take your time, they do not turn red till you attack

Start with the last fighter out from close range

Reduce the shields a little bit, then fire 3 missles, tha should kill them

It becomes easier with every one you kill, so you could use 4 missle on first one or two (after a few trys it becomes easy to shot guns, fire missles, switch targets & repeat - I don't even wait for the missles to finish the current one before switching :) )

Heya, yes it gets a lot better and easier with a joystick. To help deal with NPC; stay behind them, there's a blue zone next to your throttle slider that indicates the ideal speed for the most manoeuvrability, stick to that speed if you're forced to turn hard.

Controlling the ship seems to be easier with a decent joystick, yes. There are several KB & mouse users that seem to be doing quite well, so joystick isn't mandatory. Here's hoping that ability to customize also mouse input is improved in the prem Beta. :)

Get close (500-1000m) to Farrago Four, shoot 5-10 laser bursts, shoot 3 missiles. Rinse and repeat. :)

Welcome on board, Commander!

Here you go - a quick vid of that scenario...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6V1tQLvuXg

Max energy to weapons, shoot your lasers while your missiles lock on, then 3 missiles away.

When the missile recipient is atomised (or before, if you're confident in your strikes), move on to the next lucky Fed.

If you lose your shields, add pips to engines and get out of range using boost and the occasional evasive manoeuvre. Then pips to systems to allow your shields to recharge before returning to the fray with pips on weapons.

Welcome to the galaxy, Commander.

All good advice given already - I'd recommend watching different people's Youtube vids and Twitch feeds - there are some very good pilots out there and you'll learn a lot from them.

As for that mission - be fast, that's the secret. 4:1 odds is hard to overcome if you let two get behind you, which they will. Try to take out two ships as quickly as possibly - be ruthless! Once you get the odds down to 2:1 it's much easier, but still watch that they don't circle you and wear you down from behind.

Another noob here that was having problems with that mission, thanks for posting the advice guys. Must admit even though I died 10 times last night I felt no frustration because I was just in awe at playing Elite again and the effects as cockpit deteriorated were superb!

Hi guys, thanks for the tips. Finally got through the mission and am looking forward to trying the beta if it does appear!

Lovely foke here.

Hello,

i am also new here and already absolved my first hour(s) inside the beta universe :)

I already know how the basics work (never crashed a landing :D ) and i earned my first 2000 credits though trading goods.

As this is a little bit uneventful over time i want to ask if there is a way to get missions somewhere in the online universe? So like fly to this location and elimiate the (npc) pirate? Or do i have just to scan people i encounter and check their bounty?

Thanks

Welcome :)! And to the OP too

If you fancy a bit of action, you can hunt for pirates in resource extraction sites (e.g. in Dahan or LP98), go to the aid of a Federal capital ship in distress in Eranin, or go to low or high level conflicts dotted around the systems. If you're bounty hunting then you just need to scan the ship to see what you'll get. In the factional scenarios you have to choose a side to get paid

Hello Orly,

You're beta testing not 'playing' so please ticket any bugs you find.

The current build was once known as 'Travel, Trading and Outfitting'. Thus, so far no in-game missions. I'm sure they will come when ready.

There's plenty of combat to be had though if you head to an unidentified signal or resource extraction area.

Welcome!
