Hi y'all, exploration newbie here (haven't got more than 1000 ly from Sol yet, and ATM my computer is too broken to run ED again) but ever since I saw that post in the E
subreddit in which a guy got teleported an absurd distance below the galactic plane for his birthday, I've been wondering if any of the more obscure galactic structures that have been discovered within the past decade or so can actually be visited, or if they're even present.
Has anyone attempted to reach the Monoceros Ring that wraps around our galaxy three times, travel up the Virgo Stellar Stream that spirals in and out of the galactic plase, journey to the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy, the closest satellite galaxy to the Milky Way, or journey to the globular cluster Omega Centauri, remnant of a previously absorbed dwarf galaxy one of whoms stars can be found in the bubble already? All of these structures are closer to Sol than Beagle Point - the real question is, is there a jumpable root to any of them? The Galactic Halo is an interesting locale, but I'm not sure we'll ever get to go there in ED. It's a shame if so, because the Disc (which we'll most likely never manage to completely explore by the time ED's servers are no longer supported at some point in the coming decades) is increasingly clearly a small part of our galaxy, which may be home to closer to a trillion stars than 400 million.
I wouldn't be surprised if everything I've talked about in this post isn't accessible - I mean, if it were, I'd suspect Frontier looted a computer from a downed UFO to host this all to be honest. But as long as the vague hope remains that I could get to 'see' these regions that our species probably never will due to the sheer distance involved, I might as test the waters.
