Newcomer / Intro Newbie requires help with mission

Hi all,

Ive had Elite for a little while now and have been practicing the training missions to get a hang of things, I'm a Flight Sim fan with a X55 HOTAS and have most of the button mapping done.

So, I've finally launched a solo game, and selected a mission from the notice board. It is for "Collection of Civil War Rebel Transmissions" and return them to the station I started at. The location of the signals/transmissions was given as Frigaha system.

I managed to navigate myself there and exit supercruise without getting killed so I was very happy with myself, however, after heading to the Nav Beacon first (near the star) then to Engle Orbital station I can't find the transmissions.

I got attacked and killed a NPC (pirate?) with the help of the police and got a reward, which was cool but I would love to finish this first mission and move on.

I'm currently docked at Orbital Station. My questions are;

  • I've been using the standard scanner while flying around, will that find it?
  • Do I aimlessly search the system?
  • Will I know when I've found it?

Sorry for long first post but I wanted to put as much info as I could so you expert commanders can judge my skill/experience level (low) and what I've already tried.

You need to scan the Nav Beacon in normal space (ie drop out of supercruise). This should give you the (general) location of the USS with the Rebel Transmissions. Fly to that location and look around, a USS will eventually pop up and will be identified as the mission target (iirc you get a audio warning too).

And assuming you haven't played with your HUD colours, the USS you want will be blue rather than "yellow/ orange"

Be warned. They will often appear as a Threat 0. Take this with a pinch of salt and be prepared to run. Often a wing of pirates will come and join your party. Don't be brave, get out of there and go back into SC. Your USS will respawn even if you already picked up say 2 of the 4 salvage.

Presumably these go the same as many other missions; drop out of supercritical, scan beacon, get updated location and then just head there and fly about for a bit until you get notified that your location's nearby.

Hi all,

Thanks for the prompt responses, I'll try these instructions out as soon as the other half lets me play again. I had read about scanning the Nav Beacons being a bit tricky and wondered if I'd not done it correctly.

I'm real happy that you've been able to point me in the right direction, I am really looking forward to enjoying this game I used to love the original on the BBC B Micro during school lunch breaks!
