Newbie stuck on mentor missions

Hi all,

I'm a casual gamer (mid-30's, full-time job, family commitments, so please bear with me and be nice lol), so console time is pretty limited. Looking for a single-syllable guide to completing some of the mentor missions. Bit of history for me by way of introduction as this is my first post; Massive fan of the original (though I was a little on the young side to fully appreciate it at the time), played Frontier on my CD32 and later GL Frontier. Also still play D3D FFE on my laptop and Alite on my Android phone regularly so I guess you could say I'm a fan of the series :)

Anyway, finally got round to buying and playing ED recently on PS4. I'm (trying) to use the mentor missions as an intro into how to play the game because, let's face it, the learning curve is pretty steep even though my Elite background is pretty rounded so I have a least a bit of a clue as to what's going on.

Now completely stuck on the passenger mentor missions from Potriti. I (finally) managed to, after several gaming sessions over a couple of weeks, find a sodding passenger cabin for my sidewinder. So I now have an economy cabin fitted in place of a cargo rack. Only I cannot do the passenger mentor mission because apparently I cannot accommodate 15 passengers. Seriously? Surely by the time I've played the game long enough to have a ship big enough that can carry that many passengers, I wouldn't even be doing the mentor mission?

Am I missing something really obvious here? Surely the mentor missions should be easy to follow, and easy to meet the requirements so that I can actually have a crack at it? It's looking like I'm not going to be able to complete the mentor mission before the time runs out on the message :\

Any tips for completing the mentor missions in a timely fashion greatly received!

No you're probably not missing anything.
I have never done those, and not to sound cynical since I love the game, but that sounds like a fairly typical oversight.
:)

I suggest just avoid them and start familiarizing yourself with the game proper and the various external sites.
I use these three constantly.

Upgrade your FSD asap.
You can search for modules under stations on eddb.
If you filter for Li Yong Rui in powers, you can get 15% off at those stations.

Salvage missions are easy money for the first couple of missions.
Just watch out for the illegal ones and check the threat level before dropping out of SC.
Then I suggest passengers or bounty hunting once you've made a little buffer.

PS, I'm on PS4 as well.
Hit me up in game under either of my Cmdrs if you want; Bob_Lighthouse(main) and Bigeye-Longneck(alt)

You've likely discovered a bug .... as said above, it is par for the course and sounds quite feasible.

Welcome to the game, and welcome to the forum ! Keep at it and you will find your way pretty quickly, especially since you have a lot of past experience. Passenger missions can be a bit tricky at normal times .... you have to read the small print with these and can get caught out with a wanted passenger unintentionally. Then the fun starts when you want to dock at your destination ! I would stay clear of passenger missions until I had a better ship able to make bigger jumps.

I assume you have Elite Horizons.

Work your way up to a Cobra as soon as you can, and your game experience will improve enormously. Engineering the Frame Shift Drive will give you bigger jumps, but getting set up for Engineers early in the game is asking a lot because (1) the distance involved to get to one is high, (2) the requirements to unlock them are challenging at first. But aim for this medium term, because it will improve your game experience for the rest of its (or your) natural life.

Oh and I almost forgot. The most important thing to remember in this game is never ever fly without enough credits to rebuy your ship, or you go back to a Sidewinder when you die!
