Newbie Stuff

First post in this section... After the missus showed me some footage of PC for the console (might be the PS5 forthcoming version) I decided to take the plunge and buy the PC version.

A couple of frustrating hours later, still scratching my head a bit so would appreciate a bit of advice.

First and obvious one: How the heck do you make money in the early game? Started a Challenge mode game, you hardly have any cash so laid out a very basic arrangement with a couple of roundabouts, a food and drink shop, toilet and staff room. I took out a loan to place a small pre-built coaster. However the park is haemorrhaging money. If I put the entrance price up, no one wants to come in. If I put the price of the rides up to exceed the running cost, no one wants to go on them. Even charging $1 for the toilets isn't helping. I don't really want to just run the sandbox game, as then there's no challenge whatsoever.

I'm guessing what you need to do is hit a sweet spot where you make a small amount of money then just read a book while the game runs for half an hour, bit like Cities Skylines, rather than rush the expansion.

The version my wife showed me had what appeared to be a tutorial level with helpful and humorous comments and quips from a male and female "assistant". How do I access that in the PC version, as the only tutorials I see are links to YT videos?

The menu at the bottom of the screen seems a bit hit and miss, spent ages trying to get simple items like trash bins and benches to appear.

I'm sure there is huge potential in this game but, a bit like Elite Dangerous, it seems to have been mad a bit overwhelming when you first start out.

That tutorial is console only as of now. It is pretty fantastic as well. I played the PC version a while back and I hope they add it to the PC version since it is so well done and does teach you a lot about stuff.

Hi Seizewell,

Planet Coaster gives a lot of importance to scenery and buildings. If you go through the different tabs in your rides' panels, you'll see information about its prestige and scenery rating. A ride has it's own scenery rating separate from the queue scenery rating. Maxing both to 100% will allow you to charge more and will make guests happier to queue for longer etc etc. It's also worth placing down special effects (2 will do) and adding a trigger sequence that activates these (all accessed from the tabs when you click on your ride). What all of these things will do is increase the ride's prestige and you could go from having guests paying $7 to go on your ride, to $30 instead!

All this applies to flat rides too, not just track rides and rollercoasters.

In your ride's financial tab you'll see the max monthly income. As you increase the ticket price, that should go up and up. Guests will give you a hint if you can get away with increasing the price further with comments such as "_ is really good value!"

I'd also place an ATM near the queue entrance and a Hats Fantastic stall or Balloon stall near the exit of the ride (as these two stalls are only successful when guests are having a good time).

I suggest not to place ATM's untill you have some rides around.
Otherwise it's just unnecessary costs.

Keep an eye on the guest's comments about ride prices. I up the price while they are saying it's good value and monitoring to see if they are still happy to pay. Up each shop item by 1 dollar. Start with rides that are highest in excitement to draw the guests into spending. Font touch the park entrance price at this point. I find you can only have a small fee in proportion to park reputation while charging for rides too.
