newbie, trying to make money

HI, I'm trying to make some credits in this game. I'm getting Frustrated in this game, im in a sidewinder what everyone starts with but I'm not making hardly any credits. What I've done was take the standard scanner out to make room for two more cargo which makes me have six compartments . All im Doing is moving cargo around the system and this is low credits. Don't laugh everyone I've only made 100.000 credits in ten days. Can some one put me in the right direction. Thank you.

Are you doing the low volume trade missions from the bulletin boards - they are the easiest way to make credits to start with?

Try and upgrade your ship as soon as you can. I recall the Eagle is about 40K, so you could have upgraded ages ago. You'll have more space to trade in that I think. I certainly didn't have it long before moving to Cobra. Good luck!

When you say you are "moving cargo around the system" do you mean between stations I a single solar system? If so you would probably be better off moving between systems. You will make bigger profits.

Starting with trade is a big mistake,

just go to closest nav point, hunt wanted ships, dont need to jump on big ones, start with sideys, very often they show up without any shields. With starting ship you can make 100k per hour. Dont be hurry with getting better ship, just cash bounties often.

if u dont fill yourself a fighter, then buy a fuel scoop, and go discover, jumping from system to system and scanning only star will give you nice money - not as good as hunting but a ay better then what u making now

good luck and enjoy

1st step : New ship. I advise the Adder if your going to be running cargo early on, it's faster then a hauler and has better jump range, AND better weapons.

Personally I did low end trade missions when I started out (take this cargo that I supply somewhere else, or transport this data package) Once I got a little cash I started including mission where they asked me to bring specific items which I pay for back to the station. HOWEVER: my understanding is that exploring is a better source of income for people starting out because they don't risk any cargo/fines. Just fly around scanning stuff and sell the data every 20-30 LY. I have not tried this myself but it seems reasonable to me. Weather exploring or trading Adder is my pick for a 1st ship upgrade.

I only upgraded cargo space and FSD when I could afford it on my Adder. Once you get about 3 million (sounds like a lot I know) you can upgrade to a T6 which if you keep shields and put in a fuel scoop gives you around 100 cargo space upgraded. Now you can start working towards buying a real ship. (I'm still working on this stage I admit, but only because I fully upgraded my T6 so that I could use it for mining at a later date)

I have heard that combat is also a good choice for starting out, but personally I assumed that something with less of a risk of blowing up would be a good idea for starting out in the game. More boring but it'll just make it all the sweeter once you can buy the ship you REALLY want and start blasting stuff.

Yes you should be able to find a couple of connected systems with the same factions (in fact the early trades your given on the BB are hints).. If you do Bulletin Board hauling missions between two like this youll find they start to increase in value as they trust you more - but you must try to get more space quickly..

Google thrudds trading tool and look into trading rares, if you can pick up 4 tonnes of free costing 200-500cr each, fly them 140LY and you can sell them for 15k each. I don't know of any other way to make ~60k cr in around an hour with the starting sidewinder.

Not the easiest way, but the quickest way I know of.

I kept the scanner, 4ton cargo - take courier missions from the bulletin board, and scan astronomical body that reads as (unknown). Sell the scan data. That can get you into a hauler or adder - which has more cargo space, and keep working your way up. When trading commodities I look for stuff that is 500cr below galactic average - and get a clue about what stuff sells at what trade classified world (industrial likes food & raw materials, agricultural likes farming machinery & poop).

Standard trading is a terrible way to make money at the very start. Your cargo capacity is tiny and really can't afford to buy goods.

Try looking for easy wanted criminals to slay or abandoned cargo in Unidentified Signal Sources. You can sell abandoned cargo at the outposts that have black markets. Delivery missions where they provide the goods, or courier missions that take no cargo space are also good. Sometimes if you're lucky the police will destroy a NPC and he'll spill valuable goods like battle weapons, gold, or consumer tech around the station for you to scoop up and sell at a black market.

Thank you very much everyone for the advice, I really do appreciate it. I'm going to take all this information and decide what to do. Thanks again
