Newcomer / Intro Newcomer question: Planetary Scan Job - How do I find the planet?

I took my first planetary scan job, but for the life of me I can’t find the planet!

i went to the system, dropped out of SC at the Nav beacon and nothing happened. There’s no indication of which of the half dozen planets that are habitable that I am supposed to go to. I even did a fly by on them all... nothing.

Scan the beacon (physically target it and let the auto-scan commence) or honk the discovery scanner (you have to put it in a firegroup) and then inspect the system in FSS.

Hmm. What does the mission description say exactly?
Can you post a screenshot of your transactions tab?

Hmm... yeah. Typical scan job mission.
Maybe try to jump out of the system and back in (and check it's the right system, just to be double-sure. ) and scan it again. Maybe this time the right planet will ping.

Just to be sure, when you say you scanned the nav beacon, you mean that you dropped into the nav beacon instance, targeted the nav beacon itself, pointed the nose of your ship toward it, and waited for it to scan, correct?

Just checking, because this is after all the newcomer's section.

I'm out of ideas. (apart from the ever-successful "abandon the mission and forget it ever happened" type of non-advice)

Errmmm.... no.
You haven't targeted the nav beacon, you have targeted the navigation marker for the nav beacon. The nav beacon is (probably) that white dot/grey bracket just to the right of your current target (if not that, then the other white dot at 2 o'clock - if that one is white, hard to tell from the picture).
