Newcomer / Intro Newcomer - with issues

Yep, Derpster Frey did a good job explaining the results. I'll just reiterate that the sample size should be larger. I'd recommend sampling every 5 seconds for 5 minutes. Unfortunately, we may never know what the issue is, since it's fairly common that some ISP backbone routes ignore the ICMP echo (Ping), but you should still be able to see the connection to the endpoint (the FD server).
.
If you continue to have connection issues, run this test longer and save it as a text file (or image might be Ok too). Send the results to FD support and perhaps they can do a reverse test back to your local ISP. There's another online game I play, and many times when a player has connection issues, if not something inside their computer, it's somewhere along the route to/from the game server. Your ISP will generally claim they are only responsible for the connection from their router to your modem, and the ultimate problem is with the ISP Backbone provider they use to connect to the Internet.

Thanks to you both for the explanation, it's funny, I have just been on for the past 2 hours with no outage at all.

Will have to keep checking to see if I get reappearances of the problem and take it from there.

Thanks again for al your help.

Be sure to track the times you have no problems and when you do have problems. It very well could be peak usage for your area, and your ISP (or their backbone provider) oversold their bandwidth - banking on not having everyone on at the same time. For general web browsing, dropped packets and requesting a web page multiple times until it pops up is no big deal. But for online gaming that relies on a decent connection and few if any dropped packets, it is literally a show-stopper.

It seems to have calmed down a bit at the moment. Doesn't seem to happen quite as much, but still does on occasions.
Thanks everyone for your input.

Servers go down from time to time and restart over a 15minute period. I'm not sure if they have hard downtime but i haven't experienced it on my play times.

I have however recently had a few issues of loading from launcher, then getting kicked straight out of game because failed to load server (ok, maybe don't kick me off and give me the option to retry indefinitely until i want to give up and not close the game on me?) and I've been prevented from pressing OPEN/SOLO play because couldn't connect to server, and have also been unable to connect to open/solo after being kicked due to connection issue (but i was still able to talk to my friend over voice-comm while in the main-menu)...

so weird functionality, lack of redundancy and slightly clunky interface. The launcher isn't much better in my opinion. keep your ticket open.

Hi all,
Just a quick update.
I have had a response from Frontier and one of the things they asked me to try was to change from powerline adapter to wifi. One quick trip to the computer shop, purchase of a wireless network card and setup.

I have been using this setup now for a couple of days on and off and not had anywhere near the same issues. Had one funny drop out very quickly for a different reason, but not one like the others. Ok, so I haven't been playing for hours and horus on end, but it seems as though the issue has been resolved by swapping from the powerline adapter.

The only thing I don't understand is why this should make a difference.
Never mind though, at least I can start to make headway in the game now, hopefully, without interruption.

Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions.
Regards

To contrast, I have yet to have any connection issues at all.
But that tells us nothing, network can be fickle.

Tried doing a traceroute from you to one of the servers?
It could be an routing issue from your ISP.

What's the hostname for the matchmaking server?

Welcome CMDR
I have seen a couple of posts like this on the forum. What method do you use to connect to your router? Wifi powerline ethernet?
Do you have anything else running in the background? Are there other users on your connection when you drop out?
Loads more to investigate but that will do for now.

It's a side question, but does anyone have one of these powerline networks? How well do they work?

I
Are you getting this constantly, or is it periodic? If it's periodic it could be attributed to peak times at your exchange and an ADSL contention issue causing the dropouts. If it's constant this would indicate to me that it's some kind of routing or DNS resolution issue. It might be worth doing a ping -t <server IP address> from a cmd window and seeing what kind of latency you are getting between you and the server. Sorry but i don't know the address of the top of my head.

DSL shouldn't have contention issues, it's multiplexed.

A friend of mine had a similar issue. After he sold his
PS4 & Xbox he never had any further problems.

This sounds like a collision issue between wireless controllers and 2.6GHz wireless.

Which is stuff and nonsense, at that point they need to go to their provider and get that fixed. I've been in the NOC of a major upstream, this is part of being a good citizen.

The IP is displayed in the bottom left corner of your client when you launch the game.

Good to know.

Little disappointed to hear it's the powerline adapter. We have wired the house with a massive amount of Ethernet, but we're going to move within 1-2 years. It'd be nice to be able to just go powerline. :(

Glad you're sorted, but to be sure I'd suggest soak testing them for at least 12 hours a day for the next two days, just to make sure. Yes my previous comments was tounge in cheek (thanks for seeing that) , but I feel guilty when people take them as read and try to offer help, oop's! Enjoy.

Ha ha, I actually have seen wifi issues with particularly Xbox360 controllers, several times.
