NEWly CodeD

I have read a few posts about Fdev's inability to change the code without Catastrophically / Immersively messing something else up.

Take for instance Alf's answer to the PWA being effectively "we Just don't know" I liked that answer, this and numerous other examples led to some players surmising that Fdev have lost touch / control with the coding of the game.

Maybe Odyssey will be a chance / change for them to try and build it again from the ground up as the programming to be carried out must effectively be almost like a new game, probably keeping the physics side of things intact.

No update yet has made me fly backwards when trying to fly forwards. (well until recently), but that's my choice.
Just a thought, surely they just can't Bolt it on to 5 years worth of code changes, that they are struggling to change even now?

This is not a criticism but really a question of can they finally rework, revamp their product instead of sticking patches on the holes, as another hole will inevitably appear next to the old one.

There are plenty of closet wannabe coders on the forum who make this same observation.. among others less polite ;) (but they, naturally, wouldn't offer up their valuable time to provide fixes...)

Allegedly Odyssey has had (as @Speedcuffs mentions) code changes to make building on from Odyssey 'easier' - as we are only a few weeks away, it shouldn't be too long before we are pleased to have lots of bugs fixed - or otherwise :devilish:

Code refresh is too expensive, we will not see it. Odyssey will be postponed couple of times, will come in May or June. They have excuse with corona crisis.
So, I'm pesimistic. But, time will tell. Let's wait.

Y'all PWA guys are making more noise than the VR campaign did.

Managing a large codebase is incredibly difficult.
Coding a space game containing the Galaxy is incredible difficult.
Coding network games is especially difficult.

I've also always found that many of the practices that are in place at usual code shops to help with refactoring are hard to implement and tend not to be compatible with crunch type dev in games.

e.g: does anyone know any games companies that do unit testing?

Need a garish avatar and hashtag :sneaky:

(garish avatar, not a garish hashtag)
Don't go there, me making garish avatars should become something of an unmentionable sin on these forums, even an utterance of it should be punishable by excommunication, having said that, shares in Pfizer did rally because of the rapid increase in sales of Migraleve as a result of my VR avatar's proliferation.

They should learn to work without the damned scanner that I'm fed up seeing threads like this one, and the others about... Were I a streamer, this would be click mana, but I'm not into that nonsense, so I'll post it here for free for y'all to see. There is one shape of asteroid with a deep core, its very distinct:

Credit to @JonathanBurnage for this post in 2018 going into more detail and also providing the image above. If anyone finds my snarkily delivered information useful, once they unwrap it from the layer of angst, I'd suggest they head over to the original post and drop a like on it as a thank you to @JonathanBurnage The post was the opener for this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ds-for-deep-core-blasting.465171/post-7257674

Don't forget Specsavers - their business rocketed from all the retinal damage from the colours! ;) Joking mate.
