Newsletter #25 planet images

Is it just me or have the clouds on terrestrial planets, as shown in the newsletter, got an order of magnitude better? - they look superb! :)

We progress clearly in quality. Well beyond of what I hoped

Frontier do seem to like hiding their light under a bushel occasionally. I was feeling a little down that there was nothing new in PB1.0 over Alpha 4.03 to see, and they pull a stunt like this! Cunning... :)

Yes 100% agree with you. Frontier reveals the things very gradually. Which makes me say that we will see extraordinary things

Those images could be 'touched up' before being released.

Maybe but it wouldn't surprise me if they are real since the clouds look similar to what we can see on the gas giants. Probably the same system being used. That's one very sneaky preview though since they aren't even mentioning anything about them in the newsletter...typical FD. :D

Looking good indeed! :)

Edit: Ok, confirmed as real then. We can see them in this new video from FD at 3:13.

the video of the anaconda  did you see it ?

you can see the ship in 3rd person view during the hyperjump !!
looks wonderful:smilie:

Having had a look in-game I certainly don't see clouds like the newsletter images around Chango - the skies are as clear as ever there for me. :S

Also space seems more... blue... a tribute to Frontier perhaps? :) (Just seems a better rendering of the skybox, especially in the plane of the Milky Way - still not sure whether it's being rendered in the game engine, or a pre-rendered shot for the location from some external app using the galaxy map data?)

It's done in-game.

Watch the latest video from FD at the 3:13 mark:

So that is indeed in-game but not the version WE have access to right now. That is probably an internal build that we are going to be seeing pretty soon.

Yes BUT i want space stations in low orbit of the planet and NOT so far from it as they are now !!!

As the planets get better and better during development they will probably move the stations lower and lower. Right now the planets are quite frankly to low-res when you get up close to them.

One thing that really bugs me are the large ships...why the hell would you put forward facing weaponry on a huge ships that can't turn very well? Controllable turrets would have been ace.

I think the player ship turret AI and implementation is very much a 'work-in-progress' - we know they can work well on AI ships. There is also the entire issue of crew and crew skills (i.e. gunners) that is yet to be modelled and implemented.

Also the earlier games allowed player turret control didn't they?

I can't remember if they had turrets before, but an anaconda should not be trying to rotate to target enemies!
