NEWSLETTER #312

For an actual Newsletter it would have been nice to contain something about Odyssey (you know we have waited long enough! ) and not just advertisements of Tat paint jobs and amateur pod casts.

Honestly for a long time the "newsletter" was nothing but a way to try and sell paintjobs.

If they didn't include community created content it would be barren. I don't even think FDev want anyone to buy Odyssey, they have done such a poor job of advertising it and building hype.

No podcast or livestream has ever been the same since Edward Lewis left. In fact FDEV went down hill from then on.
Fair play to him getting out when he did.

I am quite worried about the Odyssey release, as where there has been very little shown of it, I think they are way off from any release date this year.

I have adopted a laissez-faire view of all things ED/FD.

Years ago, and into PP, it bothered me that there was merit decay, so I quit PP, leaving in a huff (not in a taxi as Groucho famously joked).

Then worked up through ranks and ships, cursed at RNGesus and came to swear off engineering and so on. Too involved, in a game.

Now, the game only matters when I play, not outside. The upcoming update only enters my mind is when I read about it on the forum.

The update will have to work within the current game limitations, so it will a furtherance, not a revolution.

But it has been said that the last to die is hope...

Newsletters are not really aimed at us here in the caves though. Its more like a semi -vestigial targeted media post that is more outmoded these days with social media.

I never worry about games & stuff, that is pointless...

Odd though, my impression is that they have commited to releasing the PC version by 31st May... The console version eventually, naturally...

For something that will be released on the 31st of May there is a real lack of promotion to highlight it's new features.
Surely it wouldn't take a lot to release a small video clip each week of its progress, May isn't that far away!

The headline article is Dr Kay's stream. About Odyssey. Dummy.
Really, so what in that livestream have we not seen before from the very short Odyssey release video.?
Who's the dummy sitting through an hour of dribble just to see stills of what we have seen before.

Perhaps the livestream coming on Tuesday of next week is worth watching? Just in case it contains a snippet more of the DLC content than we have been given to date...

Every company has a different idea of "promotion". To be honest I would prefer relatively modest promotion and a complete product rather than CIG-level "this is going to revolutionise gaming" promotion and have no product.

I presume the majority of information and details will be released after the alpha begins, as more and more features are made available for testing.

Most newsletters over the last few years have been just like thie one.
Slow news month again or maybe since they released carriers?
