Newcomer / Intro Next engineer

Howdy Cmdrs 07,
I've completed what I wanted to do with my first engineer (grade 4 FSD).

REPUTATION GAIN
Craft modules. (isn't this what I've been doing?)
Sell exploration data at Long Sight Base. (I've sold some for sure)

The next engineer I'd like to work with requires discovery by obtaining a grade 3-4 with the first engineer. But I've not yet seen a notification of discovery yet.

Have I failed to complete enough reputation gains with the first engineer?

I think you're talking about Juri Ishmaak from Farseer? If you've got to grade 4 with her then you should have had an inbox message from Juri. (And yes, what you've been doing has been increasing your rep with Farseer.)

Have a look at your engineers tab from the right HUD. If there is an envelope next to the engineer (Ishmaak) it means you are invited and perhaps you missed the inbox notification, so you will need to take him a bunch of combat bonds to unlock him.

Martuuk to Brandon. I was expecting to see some type of notification mail from him saying I discovered him, now I can unlock him, but that didn't happen. Naturally I did not think to look at the the engineers tab then scroll and scroll which I just did (thank you for reminding me).
He's been discovered alright. Now I need to unlock the bum by killing some colonia pirates. No big deal. I just arrived in colonia. Talk about convenient! 🤪

Whats a big deal is that devs have us jumping through endless hoops to get wonders of engineering done. I'd much prefer they let us pay out of the nose for em.

Instead of "jumping through endless hoops", you can see it as a (forced) introduction to all aspects of the ED gameplay - bounty hunting, combat, mining, exploration, trading, smuggling, rares, BGS/reputation, aliens.
But opinions on this issue (as on many others in ED) differ. You're definitely not the only one who doesn't like the current engineer progress system.

When you reach Access Grade 3.5 as some of these engineers require, it often fails to trigger immediately. A re-log fixes this. And this is true of more than engineer access. Whenever you expect to see something change, and it doesn't, re-log.

They want us to get out and about more :D
I've already got cabin fever from sitting in this ship for the last 2.5 months. I'd like to be able to do an EVA or get my space booties dusty while stretching my legs on a foreign moon.

At least let us land and walk around on a few select terraformed worlds.

I've relogged many times already. The possibility does exist that I did receive a notification, but simply deleted among the reputation gain mails. No matter, we're back on track.

There's a resource extraction site right outside Jaques station, where the police will help you to get the pirates. It didn't take me long at all, and I wasn't even using a proper combat ship.

I got my Brandon bounties in his system. There's a RES right next to his base. 100k is nothing and you can get that for one ship. Any bounties will do, even though before I did this I had read it must be from the Nameless faction. But Mel didn't seem to care where the bounties came from. Dorn is the tricky one.

From what others have said, yes he don't care what bounty vouchers he gets. I tried that. First in Colonia then in his own system, randomly killing anything with a bounty on its head. Then turned em into his system. Even after reloading the game, he apparently what's Nameless vouchers.

Well I guess that SOB really cares about it these days. That's fine. So I headed for Carcosa (Nameless turf). What made it interestingly tricky was to target the ones NOT in a wing. There was a 4 man and a 3 man wing floating about. So being patient to target those not in a wing made it tricky, taking longer than expected, I still had fun, especially when ripping through hulls with 3 large multi-cannons, like a hot knife thru butter.

Mel may not be so willing to take any bounty now that he's tasted pure "Nameless" blood stained bounty vouchers. 😜🤪

That's strange, as I just unlocked him three weeks ago. Did you by chance gain 100k in bounties in Luchtaine?

Maybe the bounty claims need to be Nameless, or local?

My apologies Cmdr, my 3 cups of coffee had not kicked in when I wrote the post. I was practically so groggy I was bouncing off the walls. I'm surprised that there were no type-O's.
But I'm feeling much better now.

Here's the real, unconfused story.
At first, I killed a few bounties in colonia. He wouldn't accept em. Then I went to Carcosa (Nameless system) killed a few that weren't in a wing (both wings had at least one conda in em). For the most part, in that system they're all in wings except a few (5-6) stragglers who's bounties didn't add up to much, but it was a hoot ripping em up. It just takes too long waiting for stragglers to show up. An hour is just too long. Then I went to Brandon's system at a high res location and got into 4-5 altercations in 15 minutes which produced 310k credits worth. The prize kill was a Fer-de-lance. 3 on 1 including me. His destruction provided quite a few needed components for grading up. He did not appreciate my multicanonns. 🤪 Then turned em into Brandon. No doubt he liked the Nameless blood. My python performed quite well. I'm not a combat pilot. I just don't have a great combat apptiude, but it's still fun with a properly set up ship. I don't usu go out looking for a fight.

The Fer-de-lance Had enough materials on hand to grade 3 my FSD but not completely. Now I need to grind more.
