Next Franchise Community Challenge - 5 Star Bactrian Camels

The community challenge page (https://www.planetzoogame.com/community) says that the next challenge will be releasing 10,000 Five Star Bactrian Camels.

I'm starting to build my zoo now, and get animals in so that they have time to age up (or star up).

I know that we haven't met these star challenges in the recent past, so am wondering if anyone has any tips on what to do (or not do), to make sure as many "star up" as possible by the end of the challenge.

I came on to post the same question. There are very few camels in the market, and all really poor stats. I’m planning to try and breed up some decent ones before it starts. The only thing I noticed with the recent 3 star challenge was the size was definitely more important.

Animals will earn stars also in the trade center.

I don't know whether genetics affect the speed in which the animals earn starts.
Unless many people know of this trick, I doubt it'll be possible to reach the goal of releasing 10,000 camels, as most will die before getting 5 stars.

It looks like they go into "rehome only" status at age 35, and can't be traded after that. So we'll want to watch as animals approach age 34 and get them locked in the trading center for safe keeping at that point.

(I'm basing this off of one animal I have that is 35.2, so if anyone finds that the exact age is 34.9 or 34.8 or something, be sure to let us know!)

If some animals only get to 2 stars before becoming infertile, ye then I think this challenge is an automatic fail. I think Frontier needs to rethink the challenges that involves releasing animals with different stars, as those challenges seems to fail about 90% of the time. The only thing that happens then is that people just give up and don't even try.

Animals with a high appeal gain stars faster - that's for sure.

With these low key animals, it's rather challenging, if you ask me. And this time 5*, for god sakes - it's not a lion or tiger we are talking about - a camel!

I think they will update the challenge terms before it starts. They had done it again one more time.

Oh wait nevermind, they already changed it to 1,000 haha

I bought several, and also pulled all the camels from my others zoos into one zoo dedicated to the challenge. (I'll repopulate after next week is done). I'm making sure they're at 100% welfare, and using Tobs' trick of moving them to the Trade Center when they're approaching 34 yo. I also have 5 that have reached five stars and are ready to release at the start, but I'm hoping that will increase as the animals in the trade center star up.

Stats do seem to matter. I have one 400 stats camel that is at 5 stars at age 28 (may have been even earlier, since they were already in one of my other zoos), so I'm trying to breed some others with high stats to see if that works.

(This is probably obvious to others, but I just got caught, so thought I'd post here):

Don't forget that they have a 13 month gestation period, so we may want to trade a little bit earlier (if 5 stars, or move to the trade center or non-mixed habitat if not), like at 33.7 or 33.8 or even 33.5 years old. I just had a case where one of my camels got pregnant at 33.9, leveled up to 5 stars at 34+, but then didn't have the baby until after she was 35 years old, so I lost the opportunity to release her next week.

They lowered it down to 1,000 camels now. This should be easy :D

One trick to determine if your camel is 5 star is to look at Appeal, a 5 star camel will have an appeal of exactly 4,000. you can sort it in your animal overview, no need to click on the individual camels.

I have over 100 camels in my zoo right now. Even after several hours of play none are at 5 stars, but many are at 4. I have a 4x4 ride going through one large habitat that also has gemsbok and kangaroos to draw visitors in. I also have another large camel exhibit near the entrance, and one on the way to the lions. Hoping this all works!
