Next GFX card for GA HMD releases

I'm currently running an R9 280 and getting reasonable performance and no real issues with Horizons. As the release of the production model HMDs is near(ish) I'm starting to think about something with a bit more oomph. Perhaps the R9 380X ?

What's everyone else planning? New card now or wait in case something better comes along?

I understand that card vendors are also supposed to be releasing VR capable drivers but I've yet to see any evidence of serious moves. Perhaps I've missed something?

Nvidia seems to be peeking it's head out and looking into the realm of VR. I am planning to upgrade when the next gen of nvida GPU's hit the market. I am currently running Horizons on med settings, non-OC'd GTX670's in Sli and getting very good results in VR. my only complaint is the SLi induced latency, something Nvidia already has a solution for :)

I'd wait. Nvidia cards with HBM are lurking in the background, which should be interesting. I'm personally hoping that the special SLI/CrossFire mode for VR, where 1 card is used for each eye, will be preferred option. In that case, dual 970s (or dual R9 280s) might be the perfect bang/buck combo.

The 280->380x jump isnt that great at all. And its still under the VR spec for both basic Oculus and ofcourse the higher ED spec.

So if your not going well above that, you save ALOT of money waiting until H2-16 when the new cards arrive that give you 2x perf/$
compared to now.

If you can get hold of a used 290 or even better a 290x, those will work well for you in 2016 and VR. But I def wouldnt go for a 380x at this point

I am keeping my 780s sli till the new nvidia (pascal) comes out, which should be in first half of 2016. I will buy the best version of the best card to avoid sli till its necessary.

Hopefully AMD and FD will work together to enable liquidVR in the cobra engine. This would allow much better integration on the rendering pipeline for HDMs and extend the life of (capable) lower end hardware by Crossfiring them.

(2*R9-290 here and would very much like to leverage their full power).

Yes, I've not heard much about liquid VR recently. It would be great to know whether FD have plans for integration. *hopeful face*
