Next Ship?

So, I just got my first wealth with completing the current community goals. I got appr. 22mln an have 5mln credits in my bank.

I still fly the Cobra mk3 and would like to upgrade. I am thinking about getting a Vulture and a Asp Explorer, as I would like to bounty hunt and explore. Or would you recommend getting one bigger ship (some imperial/federal ones)? To have one ship that can do both would be a good as well...

Any tips welcome :)

The next multi-purpose ship is the ASP Explorer. It's a very capable ship that you will keep.
It's ugly but very nice to fly (I love the sound too but some don't like it). It can carry quite a lot, land everywhere and jump far.

That's a good pair for where you're at. So long since I bought either of them (still have them), can't think offhand whether 22m is sufficient for good builds, but someone will be along shortly to tell you. ;)

You could do a DBX and Vulture in considerable style with that dosh. But the Asp has the best view for exploration. You can see all those beige planets in detail....

i should say that your plan is good, a Vulture and an AspX is a very useful pair, but you don;t have enough Credits for both. A fully fitted Vulture cost me around 22 mil, while my explorer AspX cost around 18 mil. I would advise you to start with the AspX. With some changing of the outfitting you can BH, and Explore. Hint: An AspX explores better than it fights. In the end, I think the AspX will make you more credits, faster.

As for one ship, to possibly do both, I would look at the FAS. It is reasonably versatile, and fights very well. Going into the black for extended time periods would be unwise, but it works great for mapping local systems, as you move around the galaxy.

I was about to say consider a DBX, great value for credits. Viper or vulture for a nice cheap and both are capable combat ships for your budget

How about fighting with the Asp? Probably it's better than the Cobra, but far less capable compared to the Vulture?

Just thinking that with buying two ships at the same time I would have to face the tough decision which to equip and fly first ;)

You might want to investigate what Modules crossover between ships. With enough crossover, mods fitting in both ships, you might be able to swap things around as you finish off their builds.

Asp is very dangerous ship in the right hands and with the right build. There are plenty of internals to turn it into a hull tank it and with a bit of engineering it's a beast. Run mine with 4 efficient pulses with scramble spectrum and thermal shock then with a pair of packhounds with overload and thermal cascade.

It does have six hardpoints so you've got a lot of options with weapon loadouts. It can hold it's own in fights with NPC pirates or assassination targets, but I wouldn't take it into a combat zone (unless it was engineered). At one point the Asp was my only ship, but fairly quickly it made me enough to afford a Vulture as well. Passenger missions can be very lucrative and the Asp has plenty of internal space for cabins.

Asp + Vulture is a nice combo but I don't think you have enough for both just yet. I seem to remember my fully A rated Asp cost 30 mil or thereabouts.

A DBX might be worth looking at - you have enough to fully A rate one of those. That large hardpoint means it can pack a punch. Much Less internal space than the Asp though.

It really depends on what you want to do.

I'm inclined to say Go For the Asp Explorer, as it multi-roles rather well.

I will say, the first Vulture I ever owned I absolutely hated. It was terrible to outfit, terrible to power-manage, two hard points seemed very underwhelming, and I sold it within an hour after buying it.
Turns out, I just wasn't experienced enough to appreciate it, as I bought another quite some time later and enjoy it very much.

I'd go with the ASP-X as well. If fact I did shortly after my cobra and I used it for trading, exploring and a little bit of RES farming. It's a really versatile ship that you can use to make a decent amount of cash with, so you can pick up the vulture later as a dedicated fighter. That was my plan but I ended up skipping the Vulture and getting a FAS as my primary combat ship and I love it.

Definitely should grab the AspX, although be aware it's not that great at fighting.

But, if you solely want to explore and don't care about 80t of cargo space and monster jump range, then a DBX is a much cheaper explorer.

Everyone should own an AspX though. It's impossible not to love it.

I went from the Cobra mk3 to the AspX. I suggest that you do that and then try a long exploration mission to see if you like it. An exploration build isn't that expensive since usually weight is prioritized over expensive shields and armor. Travel to virgin space. Get your name on some earth like worlds. Make it back to the bubble and cash in. That should make you a decent amount of money. You could use that money to then outfit a Vulture properly. The Vulture is very capable, but I don't really enjoy fighting with it that much. It does make a great ship to get past the engineering goals related to conflict zones if you haven't already.

The Asp X is my most used ship in the game.

OP, you'll need them both but right now you don't have enough money. I recommend you start with Asp for exploring and more money making so you can A Grade a Vulture and then go rocking.
