Next Up: Primate Pack!

Not sure it’s exactly logical. They could do a canopy pack, or another biome type. I highly doubt they have a pack where every animal is a particular type. Packs with varied types are more likely, as they will cover a wider base of players. Doubtful they limit a pack to just one particular type of animal. Aquatic is not really the same as primate.

.....because 1) there are 9 species of primate (including lemurs) out of what will now be 95 species after the Aquatic Pack drops.

So 10% of the animals in game are primates and you think that's a reason that more will come soon?... Not sure I agree with your logic here. Also, each of the other packs releaed so far (including the aquatic pack) have clearly made an effort to have a variety of animals (e.g., only one macropod in Australia pack, 1 penguin in aquatic pack, 1 pinniped in aquatic pack. I don't think taxonomic packs are likley (except, hopefully birds) any time soon.

I don't think we'll get a primate pack however I believe Sun Bear images have been leaked which might suggest a South East Asia pack next. If that's true then the gibbon would be an obvious candidate (and one I would love!).

Where the sun bear comes from? I don't know nothing about this rumor 😮

I guess I wasn't playing attention that day, did a list of animals leak?

Yes, there was a video from the devs, in the video they were showing various animals and talking about rigging, and their list also contained the aquatic animals that we are getting in the aquatic pack and a sun bear. Whether it was intentionaly or shown by mistake is speculative. But it "leaked" before the Aquatic pack announcement.

Wow, is the video still available?

From the perspective of personal opinion I'm all for a primate-centred pack. Primates are always over-represented in zoo collections anyway, so IMO there's no such thing as "too many" in this game. There are still a bunch of monkey species in particular which you often see in zoos that aren't in the game - spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, baboons, guenons, langurs, and of course tamarins/marmosets.

Whether we see any of these will doubtless depend on how Frontier handles DLC going forward. I'm doubtful it will be the same 4+1 formula they've been using this year. Personally I wouldn't object to them covering another four major themes next year (Europe, North America, Asia, Birds) and then using the year after to do some random animal packs (Primates, Antelope, Cats, etc.). Who can really say, though? We also can't be certain of how long the game will remain supported for, but generally the assumption seems to be three years or so before being ported to console.

I definitely think we'll get more primates in the game, but I doubt we'll ever see a complete pack of them. It seems like a SE Asian pack might be next (the Sun Bear teaser/leak and the fact that the new map is based in SE Asia) and, if it is, I really hope a gibbon species will be included. I feel like the Aquatic DLC introduces a fairly major new mechanic to the game, so the next one may instead focus on refining an existing mechanic, and "fixing" brachiation/climbing would be a good fit for both SE Asia and gibbons.

Frontier also has a habit of throwing curveballs with animal choices, though, so I could see a Proboscis Monkey or even a leaf monkey species making the cut as well. Time will tell!

I said this in another thread, but neither the sun bear "leak" nor the Philippine map is evidence of a SE Asia pack. The last challenge map was set in Estonia and we didn't get a Baltic Pack. Likewise, the sun bear could fit into an 'Islands' pack, or a more general 'Asia' pack, or even into a 'Rainforest' pack.

I notice that all those opposed to the idea seem to lack a suitable alternative 🤔

There doesn't need to be an alternative to be opposed to the idea. Fundamentally, the small size of the DLC means that they need to be as varied as possible in order to cover as much ground as possible. A pack centred around one specific family of animals doesn't make as much logical sense from a business perspective as one that draws from all families of animals. I have no doubt that more primates will appear in the game going forward, but it's more likely that they will be part of other packs rather than all concentrated within one.

I personally don’t like the idea of one type of animal exclusive packs. We get 12 animals a year, having one third of them be from the same family would be a bit.. flat. Plus ive come to find that when i buy a pack with different animals, i might not be interested in x type of animal but then i play and add them to my zoo and they become a favorite!

Another excellent point. Variety gives us a greater range of choice. As I said upthread I definitely think the game needs more primates (especially monkeys) but I can see why an all-primate DLC might be unpopular.
