Nice one FD - my legacy engineered DSS has been upgraded to new blueprint!

I just jumped into my Exploration Annie and checked out the outfitting to find that my legacy engineered DSS scanner (I can't remember the original recipe) has been upgraded to the new Expanded Probe Scanning Radius recipe @ Grade 3.

Nice one FD, thanks! [up]

Thanks for pointing this out. I just checked in my AspX, and my legacy DSS was also upgraded to the Expanded Probe Scanning Radius - at grade 4. No idea what that means yet (I tried the new scanning system for the first time, briefly, yesterday), but will find out soon. :)

So mine was #3, yours is #4. I presume this represents what grade your legacy item was crafted to.

Upgrade to grade5 if possible.

The DSS mod increases the scan radius of the probe when it hits the object. Each probe scans a fixed range round it. The engineer mod increases the radius around the probe allowing it to scan a larger area. This greatly reduces the amount of probes needed - easier to get the efficiency bonus.

I assume so too. But I couldn't tell you what mine was before (though it was most likely fully upgraded, as I've had the AspX for years). I thought that when legacy mods were upgraded to modern ones, they dropped a grade.

It means each probe covers a larger surface area, so you'll need less probes to hit the 90% mark. :)

What!!!???!!!! No grandfathering??? Sacrilege!!!

Not even a year has passed since Sandro has moved on to a new project and his memory is defiled in such a way....

Yes. FDev simply took the existing mod and changed it to the new one and kept the grade the same.

But... but... the high priests of the altar of grandfathering and player entitlement have prophesied that this isn't even possible with current tech. Doom upon us!

Why on god's green earth didn't they just do this for ALL engineered modules?!

well, for the DSS, none of the old blueprints would make sense on the new DSS. So they HAD to do something there.

personally, i think the whole grandfathering was a desaster - not because now there are still overpowered items floating around in the database,
but because i was forced to re-roll all those things i had already crafted, to apply the new parameters and secondaries...

I wasn't bothered about it at all (in fact I quite liked that it gave an excuse to re-engineer). But I am happy that I created my 5A prismatic shields for my Cutter before the change. :)
