While cursing my bad RNG luck that metallic meteorites doesn't seem to want to spawn at all, I have found one silver lining in the multiple player tips that led me to try Alrai.
Far as my MM luck, I can't complain yet the drop rate from MM for rare Yttrium or whatever is too low because I haven't gotten enough MM to spawn beyond bare handful - like 4 triplets in ~40+ hours of actual SRV driving time since 2.1 launch
But on Alrai, it is heavy gravity without being crushing, like 2.x something, and there are plenty of relatively flattish areas to set down.
The prime benefit of Alrai is there is so much iron and nickel, like dumping out of mat storage by end of 1 SRV session because so frequent and so many, that I can drive my SRV like I stole it and just crash into anything and everything at 4pips to engines full speed and not care - because I can repair as I go and still have to dump 40+ iron/nickel each surface trip.
Driving on Alrai -good. Finding rares - so GDF.
