Night Vision mod on suits is the most game-breakingly OP thing ever

I promise I'm not trying to be a smart4ss when I say this, but the mats and unlocks for night vision aren't too bad. Are you using the ED Materials Helper app? Let me know what you're having trouble with, but basically, between searching Inara for player bars offering mats (albeit expensive) and scrolling through ground missions for the mat rewards, most things are covered pretty quickly. Make sure to fdo this in an area where you've spent a decent amount of time and are allied with everyone, you get way more mats per mission like this.

FWIW, I agree this should not be one of the last unlocks, it should be one of the first.

Or so I assume, given the sheer volume of hoops required to jump through in order to unlock it. Don't worry that it comes factory-standard on all ships, nothing says "I WIN THE GAEM!!!" like making bacterium slightly less invisible.
I have NV on all 3 suit types, bought it over the counter like all my on foot stuff.

Actually bacterium are among the things that NV is the least help with, the big advantages over the built in torch are the field of view and lower battery drain.

Completely agree with that. What stopped me personally from obtaining NV at Bubble is solely idio less-than-ideal design/implementation of some types of on-foot missions (namely Covert Theft). And I had all mats required for entire line of Engineers on hands.

Feature itself is must-have (far from OP, however) for on-foot, IMO.

Do people seriously not remember the time before the engineering materials overhaul? It wasn't that long ago. Today? Psssh. Childsplay.

Night vision is basically “battle mode” for me both in ships and on the ground. Show me the detailed outline of every possible target so I can target with precision? Yes please.

So yes, it’s staggeringly OP and should be nerfed immediately instead of the enhancement it just got at the last patch that made its lines thicker and easier to see.

I like NV. Especially in CZs - it's almost always night *

* In fact, it seems most ground missions you take on are at night. And a majority of settlements seem to be in perrpetual darkness.
Space is dark. Very dark. You won't believe how vastly, mindbogglingly dark it is.
You may think it's very dark down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space...

Oh hang on, that's size, isn't it? Never mind.

Since night-vision optics is pretty standard for 21st century infantry, it beats me why it has to be a ridiculously hard to achieve mod for Elite's space-suits.
Because it's not actually night-vision, it's edge-enhancement (as Malic often points out on his streams). and they have to do it in an AI-less civilisation...

Comments below the video:
"The punch line is missing at the end. "And you try telling the young folk that today... and they won't believe you""
and "'Punch Line'..!?! LUXURY! We used to have Just the punch. ...If we were Lucky..!
🤕
😌
"

Looxury!

Upgrading gear to higher grade tiers, and engineering are overestimated.
Don't waste your time and stick to non-engineered G1 gear, you will do just fine on the ground, especially at CG's.
(wink)

Seriously, Night Vision is one of the most useful mods, for almost any kind of on-foot activities.
I know many who argued initially that it is not needed, then they got it and changed their mind.
