Hi FD. This is for you. Complaints Department? Are you there? Any one in? I've moaned about the erratic and unpredictable behaviour of NPCs around starport entrances before and the fact that one extra Kilometer on the speedo can affect the outcome to the player, of the NPC behaviour. Well a fine is a fine and whilst it's a moan it's sortable. But now it's at a different level. Yesterday I dropped out of supercruise by a starport in My Type7 and set a steady straight-line course for a vector in-line with the lock. There were NPC security patrols buzzing about near the station but not near to me. On reaching the 7.5k marker I looked down at my keyboard to make a docking request and as I was doing this an NPC craft flew straight into the side of my ship and was destroyed. I was immediately informed that I was under a 6000C bounty for murder!!? My ship was instantly destroyed by the spaceport (to which I was allied). 2 "million C and change up the spout. I had no idea what a dormant bounty was and could find no help in-game. I had contracts to fill so I retraced my course and find am now a wanted man. I had to gather dust and cobwebs accessing the relevant manual page to find out what and why. Penalized not for something I did but for something that happened to me. I find that I have to wait until some player destroys my ship again for the bounty, another 2 mill C and change, before I can play the game again as I want to play it, and the bounty stays on my record. And that it the problem. You are subjecting players to pointless penalties for situations that are not of their making. I can't be the only one this happens to. It seems that this nonsense is to cover for poor NPC software. Can't you give these things some collision avoidance capability? What good do the 'security patrols serve anyway? I notice since the last upgrade that I often now get attacked as I approach a spaceport and the attack continues well into the no-fire zone. The security forces do nothing but I bet if I were to retaliate they'd be on to me sharpish. The anarchic ports have no patrols and are no trouble at all. The 'hostiles' problem is far less there than the NPCs are at other places. I'm 67 and as an old guy I have a strong sense of injustice at anyone being victimized for things beyond their control, and whilst it's only a computer game, it has to be right or it's not worth doing. As a middle-aged man I played the original Elite on my BBC B and enjoyed it hugely. The graphics were crude wire-frame but, and it a very big but, the gameplay was excellent. You got it absolutely right. In my opinion you're in danger of losing that now. I don't want myself or anyone else to penalized for things that are beyond our control. If you can't write the software to stop that happening then just ignore the occurrences and leave us alone to play our game. I'm going to have a sabbatical now and put some miles on my Harley. S*d the bounty. If you haven't sorted this when I come back in a week or two I'm not staying. Titanfall looks interesting.
