Nintendo Switch

So the system has been revealed. And what is it? It appears to be a big gameboy, lol. Sorta kidding.

Though, really, I'm finding it hard to excited about this. I feel like Nintendo is forcing me to buy a tablet if I want to play Nintendo games. I don't want a portable system (gameboy). I just want a console...ugh. They are just trying to push more high margin hardware...that is all I see.

Maybe they will have a cheaper version that doesn't have the mobile features. Doubt it.

Also, am I supposed to be excited about Skyrim on a brand new console system? That game is almost 5 years old now. ugh...anyway, hoping I can find enough value so that I can justify buying it just to play Zelda.

You are aware that Zelda arrives on both consoles?

Also I hear there is something called skyrim remastered.

Now typically I hate money-grabbing exercises, but I am pretty sure in this case it's by outrageous demand, and I'll confess to being a culprit here.

You can be a grump all you like. I am spending any time not spent in ED over the next few weeks on Legendary difficulty backpedalling furiously from bandit chiefs on steroids.

I really like it, I want to hear more details about the hardware, connection options, storage options etc before considering buying it but I think it's really cool.

I didn't realize that...but I wasn't convinced to get the Wii U either. I just see a cheap attempt at pushing more plastic...perhaps that is unfair.

Skyrim remasterd? please...been playing skyrim with more graphics mods than I could shake a stick at.

I didn't realize it was in such high demand for a Nintendo console...probably because I see Nintendo as a secondary system anymore I assumed most had already played it on their primary system (Xbox, PS or PC).

I want to love it, really. Price will ultimately be the deciding factor.

I just don't need another damn tablet in the house for me to loose :D

It is quite interesting in my book, I cannot count the amount of times I wish I could have played console games on the go, instead hoping that there is a mobile version or similar of said game and then hoping you can port saves.
How powerful it will be is of course a factor, they need to get games.
Here's the thing though, even if it is 'only' as powerful as an xbox one around 1.3 teraflop in base station, that still means it can power wise provide the same power xbox one has now, and that if you ask me if more then enough if it is also able to become portable, yes will less power when portable sure, but if it works fine, and has good battery life, then that is most definitely something I think will be more then enough a great alternative, an alternative I personally would find very appealing.

If it has good third party games, add nintendo's first party games, now that would be quite sometime a very potent mix that could be quite enjoyable.

Do not underestimate the quality and enjoyment there is to be had from nintendo's first party game, nintendo games have hands down significantly better gameplay and enjoyment then many many other games out there, including many triple A games.

Perhaps the mobile use case just doesn't fit in with me.

I really try to think of how I would use this. It is too big to fit in a pocket...so now I need a bag.
How much down time do I really have when I'm not at home? Almost none. Though, I'm hoping to be able to switch back to public transportation soon, so maybe that'd be a decent distraction...though commute time on the train is my ideas time.

But, my opinion probably sucks in this arena. I'm usually that annoying friend who isn't looking at their phone at the bar table. My peers miss out on so much these days so they can see if anyone liked their post or not.

Portable Skyrim? Hell yeah, I'll buy that. And if it can do Skyrim, it should be able to do Fallout 3 etc. A portable Bethesda console would be a purchase in my book.

The rest of the Nintendo IP is dross imho - Mario Kart/Party/Zelda - it's all weak repetitive generic nonsense. The various Mario games are just endlessly repetitive now, even the Mario Kart shown in the trailer looks 5 years old - the only exception is split screen on the one device.

The other thing they need to do is proper online support (which Nintendo have sucked at forever), and the cart model is outdated and pathetic - however given the low onboard storage, you have no choice to shell out for the carts rather than SD cards and downloads - that's not good, as they can pull region nonsense. It also needs a STANDARD mini-usb charger port rather than their proprietary connectors before I'll buy it.

I was hoping for Skyrim type content with the PSP and then Vita, but was sorely dissapointed - lets see what the Switch has got. However - it needs titles front and center for launch, otherwise it'll bomb.

Mario Kart 64 was the last one worth playing.

Heh, they've rushed to turn off comments under their trailer. From what I've seen they were taking some flak. Reoccuring word was 'gimmick' and 'goes into the same trashcan with WiiU'. Can't say I don't agree with any of that :)

I think Nintendo lost their touch with gaming community many years ago.

Yeah agree. Nintendo had his best time back with the SNES/Super Famicon, after that they made mistake after mistake that led to less and less 3rd party developers.

If you ask me Nintendo is only a niche player now. They deliver mostly only Nintendo related games and lack of all the other ones. Hardware wise they always lack behind Sony and Microsoft and so most games look less good or just old.
Actually i did stop caring about Nintendo after the N64, i still bought a Gamecube way later because i wanted to play 4 japanese games i got from some other Hobby i had back then.
Bought the Wii because i had fun at 1st with the movement controlls and later i hated it, because it was not nesessarry in a lot games. I thinks i only bought and played 10 Wii Games on the Wii. It was later more for hacking and modding then acutal playing.

However i wont buy a switch too, looks like the same old song for me and actually i cant stand the same old Nintendo games anymore.

From what i heard the pricerange (299€ for standart edition) will be to high for my taste and such a thing.

None of those 2 (Skyrim and NBA) games are confirmed on NS, so it looks like marketing trick again from N...
And I doubt that in tablet mode NS (or even at all) can run full versions of them anyway, so people be careful with NS hype...

Everything I've read says that there is no tablet mode, that the dock is just a quick power and hdmi port plugin. I don't doubt it, look at how powerful apple has made the iPad Pro and they were deeply concerned with keeping it thin and light, something Nintendo isn't trying to do. This could be an amazing 1080p tablet with some truly great games. I've bought N since the Wii came out, my kids have a Wii, Wii U, 3DS and N3DS and my son is a big Zelda and Mario Kart fan so this is is looking like his b-day present. $259 is acceptable too, although as far as I know still only a well-sourced rumor. I just hope they don't pull a n3DS with the docking station and not include it in the base bundle.

Gameplay debuted on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show. Switching Zelda's Breath of the Wild between TV play and handheld looks really good, I can't believe how thin the handheld unit is.

Demo starts at 4:38
