Nintendo Switch

Still looks like a gimmick to me. Right at the time when they should've played it safe...Probably I just don't get it.

There is no point creating a product that already exists, it would put them into direct competition - which for nintendo is a lot less safe imo.

In a world 1080pi or 2k screens are becoming standard, it may be fine but it not very future proof.

Hmmm, while they might be popular high resolutions on tiny screens are no more useful than a marketing gimmick (bigger numbers = better).

The screen is rumoured to be of similar size to that of the WiiU (6.25"), even at 720p you would need to hold it within 12" of your eyes to view all the detail. Personally I'd take the extra battery life on something I'm holding more than 12" away than have less battery and have to hold it stupidly close to see the detail.

Unless "future proof" means looking closer at screens, 720p is enough for a mobile console.

I'm worried that Switch will get great exclusive games, like the upcoming Seasons of Heaven which runs on UE4. :/

I really need more than Zelda botw, MARIO odyssey, and a splatoon 2 before I can pull the trigger on this given the price ( 50-100 more than I hoped/considered a clincher). However, those 3 plus maybe one more really fun game and yeah I'll probably get it. It's just that I was hoping to get 2 so each of my kids could have one and at 300 each plus buying must-have games twice it's just not going to happen I think. @200 I would have. Damnit N.

Since a lot of the game prices popped up at £50-60, they can get stuffed. I'll get Zelda on the Wii U and wait for the prices to come down a bit before considering a Switch, maybe when things like Mario and Xenoblade show up as they look pretty great. :)

Don't mean to necro this thread but I thought a durability test could be appreciated. :)

Still stand by my point made long time ago. It's too gimmicky, and it will fade into oblivion fairly quickly. However, it looks like it has other problems.

I am tempted, by all accounts Zelda is amazing.

But like previous Nintendo consoles I've bought (post-Gamecube), it's probably going to sit there gathering dust due to a lack of decent games.

Why would it? There's Ebay to prevent such scenarios. ;)

Nintendo walks their own way, and has done it for the past 15 or so years. They don't bother with the console wars with the other two giants, and perhaps it's for the good.
But I do think Nintendo stands for innovation.

what is good about it

1) Zelda game on it looks great.
2) Decent detachable controls on what is a tablet.

what is meh about it

1) Except for the two good things above I wonder how it could fit with my gaming pc and tablets I already own.

what is bad about it

1) Lots of reports about techincal issues.
2) Too walled in and too expensive for games and add ons.

Question to any Switch owner:-

Do your joycons fit tight to the Switch, ie do they feel solid when attached?

I ask because my left joycon feels solid and good, however my right one does flex/wobble a tiny amount and it's rather irritating. also I have a 2nd set of joycons and the right one is the same with that, which leads me to think it's a problem with the right rail on the switch itself.

it's not a game breaking issue, the flex is like 1/16th of an inch or so but I'm just worried that over time it might get worse and worse and develop into a problem.

Seems a bit silly to send the unit back just over this (and when I have a screen protector on it) but I'm considering it. depending on if others have the same issue or not.
