General / Off-Topic Nintendo Switch

dont forget the op system 99.
Where is the motherboard add another 75-300

And and yes I build all my systems since the 90s the stores I shop newegg/tiger direct/frys

Haha yeah Mopo is needed, W10 is noted though [big grin]

But yeah you could get a $70 Mobo to work fine for what is needed but you then looking again at $765. People seem to have a false/blind view of how much it would cost to get an xbox/ps level PC. Lets say you drop the graphics card down to get the same performance, say a AMD RX460 which averages around 28fps on games at 1080p high settings then you save $80 so your back down to the $690 but only getting the same performance as a $250 console.

Edit: Also need a cooler of some sort for the CPU as the standard Intel one will soon get overloaded for long gaming sessions so another $40 there as well.

So yeah OK you can do, you could maybe track down deals but I feel you would have to look at the 2TB XB1 which is overpriced for the difference of storage compared to the 500GB version. $300 vs $400 when A hard drive is only $40 difference for that size/type. You could even buy an external SSD for the extra $100 for more storage and it would still be faster than the internal hard drive anyways load time wise with no noticeable negatives.

If Nintendo is smart enough (and savvy enough) The switch can be used like a regular tablet with its own appstore and OS.

this could be a huge stretch...and I mean HUGE. but seeing how they have been putting in some time to make their own mobile games, it doesn't seem like a far stretch that they'd make their own tablet to play them on. also it would definitely help get Nintendo some investors who claim that only gamers and hardcore nintendo fans would use the switch.

perhaps their first trailer is to hype up the gamers, the ones that expect this to be a console machine and nothing more. get them talking about the system and when the time is right they'll release information about it being used as a tablet.
I can see their next trailer about the switch right now. seeing them take off those joy-cons and use it for everyday use as a tablet instead of a gaming console, then go back home and slip it back into its charging port for some good ol fashioned gaming.

I guess one can dream...

edit: after doing a bit of research and wondering why they haven't revealed this thing to be a tablet yet I theorize that they are waiting to reveal it in another trailer. looking back at the wii u trailer, it was just a mashup of multiple things that it can do, which may have contributed to the confusion of the general public that don't play games so what I'm thinking is that they'll make a separate trailer focusing solely on the Switches tablet capabilities.

I like nintendo games, I want the new zelda. It better be backwards compatible with wiiU though. I dont know if I will utilize the "portability" features of the switch. To me its just a new handheld with a TV docking station, and I think its a pretty sick looking handheld console, but I havent played handheld games much since the Gameboy Advanced, and I wish they would just make a more powerful console. Oh well thats nintendo, they own the market for kids and parents [haha] I still want the new zelda! I think the switch will be very successful for nintendo and hopefully in a couple years they will release a way better VR console [wink]

1060 MINIMUM for 1080p 60fps? I have a GTX760 and I get 60+fps on a lot of games, 1080p, high settings most times too.

Yes for modern games. Witcher 3, Tomb Raider (latest), gears of war etc. All require something around the 1060 to put them on the highest settings and get a constant 60fps at 1080p

If you want Medium/high mix settings on the latest games then something like your 780 is fine.

I have a 980 that in some games struggles to get a constant 60fps at highest settings at 1080p whilst others I can get 100fps +

For instance Tomb raider as just an example at 1080p max settings average fps is around the 45fps mark and dropping as low as 35fps

The point is that to get constant 60fps at 1080, not sometimes depending on game & settings. If you are going to spend the money to buy a PC spend the extra $100 to get that extra performance otherwise you might as well buy a console.

Yeah I have a 4k monitor and all that jazz when it came out but if I just wanted to play games day to day I would stick to a console for the price and buy games 2nd hand. The reason any of this is being discussed is that for the same level of performance it is still cheaper to buy a console. To get more performance you don't have to spend a lot more but it would still equate to getting two consoles so to say that consoles are irrelevant or why bother is rather ignorant to suggest really.

My old pc has a 770 GTX along with a i7 2600K and 16gb ram which my nephew is getting this afternoon and it still a damn fine gaming rig, but if you want to play the lastest AAA games its starting to show its age for my tastes. (originally had a 560ti and 8gb ram, paid around £1200 inc monitor 5 years ago, custom built with branded parts)

PC component prices are expensive at the moment in the UK, my current rig is now £300 more expensive than it was 4 months ago when I bought it. Consoles are far better value for you average gamer who plays 5 or 6 games a year due to the competition in the hardware market. How many people have bought cheap console killer pc's or steam machines and now regretting there purchases's for playing new games. I know and understand I like higher end hardware so don't mind paying a premium for something that gets a lot of use me and my girlfriend so I consider it money well spent. No different buying a cheap or expensive car I suppose.

The Switch look like a nice idea but will bomb as the tablet/mobile market has taken over the portable/young market which made the DS/Gameboy popular choice with kids.

reports have gone out that the switch will have a multi-point touchscreen. and the tablet itself is going to be 6 .2" large.

this is a good step in a direction towards the switch being used as a regular tablet.

I have owned one for around 2 years now. I first bought it for the hand full of games that i had an interest in. Now it kinda acts like a Wii replacement ^^

Its not the greatest console by any means, but its still better than the wiiU.

Which brings me to my new question, will planet coaster be brought over to the switch as a “thrillville” replacement?

Highly unlikely, it brings top of the line gaming PC's to their knees. The Switch's specs don't really work in it's favour.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is probably doable though and assuming Frontier's 2013 deal with Atari is still good they could potentially do that.

tbh, I'd prefer a series based on Planet Coaster that follows the same guides as Thrillville, so each each park you visit has 3/4 area's, each themed and you can plop things down, maybe base the coaster system on Screamride which would work I guess? both Thrillville & Theme Park World were amazing with how crazy they were, Thrillville seemed to have realistic flat rides (with physics taken from RCT3 I guess?) but I loved how TPW had more craziness happening with guests jumping on a dinosaurs belly, or a big muscular gorilla swinging banana's around.

I think Parki would work really well on Switch! :D

I would like to see Parkitect come to the Nintendo Switch. The touch screen could work with building coasters and you can certainly take the game on the go with you.
As for Planet Coaster, a Switch game would be similar to Thrillville, with the coaster system being similar to Screamride. The flat rides could even be inspired by Theme Park, Theme Park World (aka Sim Theme Park), and Theme Park Inc. (aka Sim Coaster).
