No bounty to CMDR attackers? (1.1)

OK... So I'm on my usual bounty hunting route in Cupis, heading to the Nav Beacon. I get interdicted by a CMDR in a Viper - which I thought would now be a crime anyway. I let myself be interdicted so I can see what this guy's up to (I'm in my Cobra, armed with Plasma Accelerators). He attacks me, I respond appropriately (i.e. he's destroyed). However I am the one who got the 6000 Cr bounty!


Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I was thinking that it could be that some CMDRs are taking advantage of a system that prevents you from getting bounties when firing at CMDRs? So they fire at you, you respond and then you get a bounty for killing them (but not responding to their attack)?

Did he hit you, and his marker in the scanner turn red?

Firing "at" you is not enough for you to avoid the murder fine if you kill him. He has to actually hit you.

The interdiction is supposed to be a crime... so I thought?

Heheh, common bounty hunter mistake in your case then... I have the "report" thing off usually to avoid additional police entanglement or when hunting with a friend (prevents a lot of friendly fire incidents), but I do try to remember to toggle it when going about other business. :)

Precisely. So my conclusion is that this guy was simply crazy and didn't know what he was doing. I don't even carry any cargo - so why in the hell would he interdict me?! (I was not wanted, obviously)

I had that recently too - interrupted by another viper whilst en route to cash in some bounties.

I submitted, and didn't really have time to fight so tried a speedy getaway, but he was determined to have a scrap. No chat, just pew pew.

Thought "sod it, let's show him how futile this is" and spent ten minutes with both of us not making any headway due to SCBs. Then I just boosted away again, him slowly gaining on me as my FSD charged. Eventually just before I jumped he said "pretty even fight!" ...

Some people just fancy a bit of pvp. I do think the penalties for it should be a bit tougher to get rid of though, not just a quick nip to an outpost to clear your sullied name with cash ;-)
