No bueno

Hey, fellow CMDRs!

I just recieved my CV1 and been having a blast with it... except in E:D.

The issue is that it seems to work for 10-15 seconds, but then I get some bad stuttering. I have yet to experience this in any other game. Also
the FPS counter is usually at a steady 90- but then sometimes drop to the mid 50's, which I still thought would be within the Asynchronous Reprojection-thingys range, and shouldnt it
get locked at 45 if it kicks in? (note: all of this is while sitting at launch pad, inside of hangar, although stuttering also happens elsewhere, even in supercruise)

I am playing on a laptop, an HP Omen with GTX1060, an i5-6300HQ processor @ 2.3 GHz and 8GB of RAM, and if it is relevant, I can play this game on ultra
1080p with 140FPS without VR.

I know laptops are not the best and the processor is old, but I am asking for
help anyway, just in case there is anything that can be done.

I have tried unparking all the cores
What graphical settings I choose doesn't seem to make much difference, if any at all (found a couple of combinations on these forums, but still the same issue)
I've tried with HMD quality and SS at low
I've tried with two sensors (in case of tracking issue)
I've tried updating everything I can think of
I went and bought a powered USB-hub

Any advice, fellerinos?

yeah, it should say 45 fps when async kicks in, but if you take the headset off that seems to turn off too, so if you take it off to look at fps you won't see it.

Not running trough steamvr right? just oculus and the launcher?

maybe you can go to the windows powerplan and turn off a bunch of powersaving features when plugged in, might help?

Yes, just running through Oculus (y)
I did go through the USB power management stuff and deactivated it, but still same.

With regards to taking off the headset, I had my wife on FPS-watch while testing, and she said no lower than 50-something.

It could be the laptop and the PSU hitting their power limit.

Could be, as when I don't use my powered USB-hub I get regular disconnects with both HMD and sensors, but in that case I take it
it's not much that can be done; am I right?

By the way, thanks alot for the help so far guys/gals :D

Your processor could potentially be an issue, it is pretty slow. 8GB of ram should be enough, but I put 16 in mine ot make sure. The GTX1060 isn't the best for VR too. Probably a number of issues all stacking up.

The USB power requirements of the Oculus are pretty high. I suspect you're overheating and/or sucking too much power. Sorry to hear it! Build yourself a desktop :)

Worth a shot - the wireless Xbox one controller services cause a terrible issue with oculus / elite for me and it's the only VR game it happens with. Before I launch ED I kill off all processes related to the XBone controller. Of course if that's the only thing you have to play with and that's the issue you will have to get a new controller. USe it as an excuse to get a HOTAS if so!

It's also possible the USB channels are getting saturated and causing head-tracking issues. Make sure the USB plugs are separated, and not connected next to each other. Or you may want to try a mutli-channel USB card. (oops, you're on a laptop)

EDIT, actually just read your reply here:

When you're saturating your USB controllers, you'll get disconnects, poor tracking performance, and similar problems. It might even cause USB disconnects on other devices, like the joysticks and mouse, etc. Playing on a laptop, you'll have difficulty with this for sure. You're limited on ports to begin with, and can't expand internally. I'd still try to separate the HMD and sensors, and in fact for ED you probably only need one sensor, and just don't use the Touch controllers.

I don't have one, actually; I am so lucky that I only play with HOTAS!

I had to sell my desktop, unfortunately, as I don't have anywhere to set it up atm. So laptop it is (although its lap-mid at BEST (get it? get it??)).

This seems to be the issue, based on the response from several of you great peepz now.

I guess I won't be playing E:D anytime soon, as it works smoothly for a couple of seconds and this has given me enough to realize how sick it is in VR xD
2D just won't do it anymore.

I guess I should've listened to that website and downloaded more RAM while it was free and supplies lasted!

But seriously thanks again, everyone :)
