Squadrons - Players like working together, w so we’re going to add a new organisation structure for player groups, called Squadrons. You’ll be able to create your own squadron with tools to manage its hierarchy and membership. Squadrons will feature enhanced communication options, making it easier to coordinate your efforts, whether you’re doing completing community goals, supporting your power or manipulating the background simulation. And as a little treat, squadrons will be able to purchase a fleet carrier, giving members a mobile base of operations where they can restock, refuel and respawn.

What support do clans need?

I'm puzzled I just thought that apart from adding stuff like -=XX cmdrname XX=- to your name all clans were was an arrangement to meet online and play together. Much like many players already do via steam chat, discord etc etc.

This, essentially, will be what you're talking about.

The Focused Feedback section of the forums will host the design and philosophy behind Squadrons where Sandro will be looking for feedback. This feedback session is likely to start at the end of Q1/start of Q2 - though this is not confirmed and we'll do this when it makes sense to start putting our ideas forward and gather feedback on them.

We'll see what "squadrons" brings. I'll keep my expectations low, as always.

Well, Discord is a dedicated tool, by a team that develops only Discord for years. Elite can't integrate something as advanced for the obvious reason that Elite devs aren't full time working on voice chat for years like Discord's team is. Heck, even guilds on most MMOs use Discord or Teamspeak or whatever tool which is dedicated for that task.

That said, they can enhance the voice chat already ingame, allow faction text messages like we can already do with wings.

So, we'll see :)
