Newcomer / Intro No contacts in range?

Why is it im in a system where ive attempted to dock at 3 stations and i cant communicate with any of them to request docking clearance? I have no fuel left and i cant dock anywhere :(

I have a fine to pay from earlier. is that why? I cant pay the fine until i dock. The fine was because i couldn't complete a courier mission. And that was because i got to the last jump and didn't have enough fuel :( So i had to self destruct :(:(

Also. When looking at galaxy map after selecting route. Some lines are dashes. Do these indicate jumps i cant make cos distance is too far? I keep taking on missions where ultimately i get somewhere i cannot jump to. Its getting rather frustrating being able to achieve nothing in this game. All im doing is exploring and gathering data, but if i cant dock i cant sell it, and when i self destruct i believe the data is lost?

Im really enjoying flying around but sooner or later this game needs to let me get to my destination! I've ditched my lasers to lessen weight. Its not like they did any damage anyway :(

Did you perhaps disable your sensors? I did this once in my eagle trying to get more power for my guns... On the right hand screen in Modules, I think, you can uncheck your sensors, then you can't target, and can't communicate to a station to ask fer docking permission.

You seem to have bad luck with your start. But don't worry, soon you'll know everything :)


Concerning your question: Yes, self destruction will loose all the gathered data.

Besides my guess on your docking issue would be the same as AvMANDGI stated.

If that's not the case: May you provide some more infos to get a better idea what's happening, like e.g. messages from the panels on top left and right? (maybe screenshots if you have ...)

Re the docking problem, I'll ask the silly question first: Are you trying to request docking from the system bodies list entry for the station rather than the Contacts list? It has caught me out before :)

The dashed lines in the galaxy map indicate routes that exceed your jump range with your current cargo but are feasible with a lighter load or an empty hold.

That's how it used to be in beta - it isnt like that now. It won't show jumps you can't make at the selected mass at all. The dotted lines now indicate that you will have to refuel en route to make that trip

Ah, thanks. I hadn't noticed the change because I'm lucky enough to be in a long-range Asp and don't need to refuel very frequently :D
