'No Destination Lock'

Can anyone shed any light on what 'No Destination Lock' means?

I get the message appearing on my top right info screen whenever I leave supercruise.

It seems to suggest to me I'm making an uncontrolled exit from SC, even though I have the station targeted before exiting. I'm wondering whether I've been doing it right all this time!

I normally appear around 8Km away from the targeted station but have had a number of occurrences where I appear inside (literally) the station walls.

Cheers, :)

Basically it means you've overshot your target. Exit SC earlier. I tend to exit as soon as the safe alert appears. Never had any problems doing that.

You must be moving at less than 1000 km/sec and be within 1000km (1.00Mm) of your destination. If you are then the destination lock will operate automatically and you will drop out near your destination. If you are dropping with no lock you are probably outside the distance. If you drop at too high a speed you will get a warning and have to press the SC button twice to force an exit as it can damage your ship.

If you are dropping out at the location you locked onto, then either it is a bug or you are very lucky.
Otherwise, you need to be within 1000km, and travelling at less than 1000km/s with to locked target generally in front of you to exit at the locked location. The panel on the left displays these conditions, and you will see a message informing you that you can safely disengage supercruise when all conditions are met.

I normally try to be as close to the station as possible when dropping out of SC. Usually drop out at around 8Km, though if I drop out at 20Km I normally find that I am 20 Km away from it.
.
On this basis I thought that if I drop out at 500kM away I'd have a long run into the station, but it sounds like you're saying that as long as I'm under 1000km and doing the right speed then I should drop out near the station?

Will give this a go once I get back into the game after the update.

Cheers

Exactly. If you drop out as soon as the 'Safe' indicator shows up (usually right when you get under 1Mm, because the speed is usually lower enough by then) you appear around 9km from your target, regardless of how far you were when you dropped out.

There is a minimum distance of like 200km, though, so if you are closer than 200km you land exactly where you are instead of being automatically moved within 9km.

Well look at that! It works.

Dropped out at 800Km and got a 'destination lock engaged' notification and put me within 9 Km of the station.

Been doing this wrong since August. :)

Thx Guys.
