No difference between basic discovery scanner and intermediate discovery scanner except for....

No jest - increasing the scanned diameter for the intermediate scanner by a factor of 8 would increase the scanned volume by a factor of 512 when compared to the basic scanner - so that would actually increase the number of cubic light-seconds scanned per credit for the intermediate scanner when compared to the basic scanner.

so going off of V/credit
the cost of the basic is 1000 credits so 524,000,000/1,000 = 524,000 ls^3/credit
the cost of intermediate is 500,000 so 4,190,000,000/500,000 = 8,380 ls^3/credit

And Rooster keep in mind the Basic is free most of the time.

Oh stop whining. It's not hard to make 500k. I threw the advanced scanner onto my ASP for 1,600,000 credits just to put something into the slot and I never use it.

i have no problem making 500k nor was i whining. 1: i have no desire to explore (it just doesnt interest me atm) 2:my argument was not about that its to hard to make 500k (from what ive been reading its probly very hard if you are only exploring) but that if the cost matches what you actually get

Consider it like this: you get 500ls diameter standard with your ship but it costs 500k cr to get the first upgrade. I hardly see the problem. If you had to actually buy the standard scanner, it'd be another discussion entirely, but since it's not the case, I really don't see why this is an 'issue'.
