No discounted insurance on discounted ships and modules?

This got buried I guess.

Apparently the reduced insurance shown on your screen when you buy discounted ships/modules are WRONG. Your insurance rebuy would be identical to non-discounted ship/modules.

It makes sense somewhat (although for backer/elite players SD give us 10% off all ships and places like Alioth have 20% off Asp/Orca for example), but the wrong right hand screen info should be fixed because a CMDR might think he got enough money for a rebuy when in reality he is a few percent short. That can bankrupt him through no fault of his own.

Personally I lost some money rebuying my Dropship (sold the old 5% off for a new 12.25% off at SD) but I thought the reduced rebuy is worth it. Well I thought wrong...

if somebody can check I would appreciate it but if nobody is willing to blow up a discounted Sidey by tomorrow I will volunteer myself when I got some time...

Well this sucks, at least we got the ship cheaper to start with but it seems abit &^%* that the rebuy is shown at the cheaper rate.
I can see their point of view, as the amount you would pay over time if you die would be greatly reduced and 'unfair' to some people.

My view is that, there have been a few CG's in the past that have offered ship discounts and those times will come round again, so in time others will be able to take advantage, akin to limited time offers we get today on goods and services. Like those laptop deals they used to do at lidl, they were clevo barebones redone buy gericom or another European make. sorry tangent.

My point is that theses were global rewards available to everyone and the lucky ones who got in on it this time should keep the lower rebuy and others can get their chance another time.

Yep it was buried, thanks for resurrecting. I'm still hoping the customer service rep was wrong! Hoping we can get confirmation without me blowing up my discounted to now 7.9 million re-buy Python (used to be 8.6 million...or maybe it still is?).

*makes sense somewhat* no it doesnt insurance is supposed to be 5% of what you bought the ship for not what the price is some other place even if its a 1 time discount and if its true that you only get 1 discounted insurance then that is complete

What I mean is that in real life (where i live), new car insurance (for the 1st year) is based on the taxed price (which is before any discount is applied) instead of what you paid for it. I know other countries have different systems, but it matches how it works in real life here.

Well there is a bug regardless, either the rebuy screen is right and the status panel is wrong; or the status panel is right and the rebuy screen is wrong. I hope its the latter!

I don't really care one way or the other, but I am quite concerned that the Rebuy cost shown in the right panel may be less than what I actually need...

Yes, the problem is in discrepancy and not in cost. Whichever is fine, since you still got a ship/module discount when you bought it.

Before I blew a discounted Sidewinder with discounted modules in a few hours time to test this...

If I elect to be "bankrupt" and just get a freewinder from the insurance screen, I will not lose any of my stored ships & my credit balance right? I am 99.9999999% sure I will keep my balance and ships, but I just want to be sure lol.

You mean just ditch the ride on the rebuy screen intentionally? You're basically just abandoning your old ride so you should be fine. I can't see how that would affect your capital other than the obvious loss of the abandoned ship.

You shouldn't lose anything except the Sidewinder you blew up. I self destructed in a Sidewinder to figure out where my starting system was, I'd forgotten. Didn't lose any money or my real ships.

So I just checked this.

1. I am an Elite & bought the Sidewinder at Jameson Memorial. That means I enjoy a combined 12.25% discount. 10% from the location, 2.5% from innate discount for being an Elite.
2. I strip all the default non-discounted modules that comes with the discounted Sidewinder, wait until rebuy is gone, and bought the cheapest possible mandatory modules at 12.25% discount. I did not rebuy modules that can be totally stripped like weapons/shield, the fuel tank is not discounted because a Sidewinder is stuck with the smallest fuel tank.

A stripped non-discounted Sidewinder insurance is 1,069 Cr.
http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=701,,2-3w3w3w2M2M2M22,

This is my right screen before the attempt:
Before.jpg

This is my insurance screen:

This is my right screen after the attempt:
After.jpg

496,551,419 - 496,550,591 = 828 Cr.

So the insurance value shown in the right screen is correct and is reduced by the ship & modules discount.

That means the Costumer Service agent is wrong or the non-reduced insurance might only applies to ships & modules that are bought during temporary discount events. I am leaning toward the Costumer Service agent being wrong though...

Either this isn't true or I am really lucky because I had the misfortune of having my discounted Anaconda blow up today (my fault) and the insurance was a little over 7 million. When I looked over after sitting in a fresh one I saw the buy back is the same as it was before.

Thank you for the science and confirmation! I thought that agent had to be wrong. Yay! P.S. I can't rep you twice apparently, sorry.
