No ED for a few days...

So my XBox warranty recently expired... Can you guess what happened next, boys and girls? [redface]

Luckily nothing too catastrophic, but my only control pad is glitching out on me.
The Left Analogue Stick is drifting upwards continually, which I gather is one of many common problems with the official pad.

The pad still works, despite the drifting and most games are still playable to an extent... But not ED! Oh no!
Why not try flying through the letter-box and landing when the nose of your ship is continually trying to point down?
Fighting a wing of Eagles in a cumbersome Python whilst having to wrestle the controls?
Or why not try navigating a startport menu when the selection icon is scrolling through the options like a one armed bandit... [blah]

Well, I shall have to lose a chunk of my wages on Friday to buy a new one... and I am supposed to be saving for a weekend away with my mates in a couple of months!

So no ED for a few days... I need my fix! :p

I hate you Microsoft, sincerely! :p

Looked at cleaning it may be the contacts, I'm sure the old wise man if YouTube will have guides how to do it, also look at the cheap non official pads if you don't want to shell out mega cash. I have a spare but the mini usb isn't working on it if you want it

Hm, dunno how serious it is, obviously, but have you tried drastically altering the left stick's deadzone? Worth a shot.

Had a look on youtube, most seem to suggest the control pins themselves need replacing.
Easy enough to do, but ordering the cheap replacements from China takes a few weeks.
May still do that so I have a spare pad.


No biggie, I have sone overtime money coming in this week; this was more a toungue-in-cheek rant at MS than an appeal for help. But thanks for the offer all the same :)

I've been overwhelmed with finals, so I haven't been able to play ED or use the forums as often as I like. So I'm on a short little hiatus too. Soon though. Soon...

I didnt know it was a common problem but I can tell you my old one is now used as a battery charger because like yours the left stick moves up all the time. I picked one up from Amazon ages ago, long enough anyway that both batteries now barley last a day :)

I had a left drift with my old 360 controller.. i made it open, cleaned it, used some WD40, and it was as new again.. (also out of warrenty though, i strongly advise anybody to open up any MS hardware that is still in Warrenty)

I'm honestly debating on whether or not to get the Elite controller. Not so much for the button mapping, but rather just because it's a tougher controller. I hate that all the plastic controllers tend to melt in my hands after a year or two of use.

I just got it the other day, I love it! It definitely feels like a tougher controller, but I am not going to drop it to test the theory. It has made combat easier, since I can control my speed without taking a finger off the trigger.

I actually have a working controller now, but am no longer on alternating shifts at work and am on permanent early shifts.
Plus point is that I finish at 2.30pm (yay!) but am usually in bed by 10.30pm (booo!)

Will be on this weekend though! :D
